Is it a worthwhile magazine to subscribe to now or is it total crap

The latter.

For 4€, it would be a good and fair deal. But 8€ is way overpriced given that most of the content is advertisement.

With the exception of the rare issue that will have new playable rules, you can get what's inside off of their own site.

Space Wolves: 3770
Orks: 3000
Chaos Daemons: 1750
Warriors of Chaos: 2000

I looked at a recent issue and was really surprised at the amount of white space compared to when I last bought it, and I thought it was bad back then. Text is larger and more spread out, lots of large pointless photos. Pages in the front covering new releases has expanded to take a sizeable chunk of the magazine before you get to actual articles whose sole purpose is to sell those models anyway. It's a very heavily padded magazine that is largely devoid of worthwhile content.

Since the revamp I can tell the print quality has improved, there's a few fancy tricks with the printing on the covers and such which do cost more. Shame, that added expense could be put into the stuff going between the covers, it really is all style over substance.

April's issue wasn't as bad as the previous lot, I'm hoping we may see some improvement and a return to the good ole days soon.

The White Dwarf is presently a magazine focused for the absolute beginner. Get your modeling, painting and tactical advice online. Save your money for models and terrain.

Not even a beginner. Last years issues have had almost nothing of value to anybody, except a kid that just wants to look at pretty pictures.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

White dwarfs used to have articles on how to build terrain, customize models, paint special characters. Hell, even talk about other game systems. Its just one big promo of their product now. And a bad one at that. Its all a part of GWs attempt to be a pay to play, our way or the highway ''industry''. A reflection of their current business practices.

Id just buy one on rare occasions when there something really useful, like everyone else I know.

It's alright. The actual magazine paper and image quality are both fantastic, and if you have an iPad then that edition is worth it. The issues since the makeover have been far better and had some more insightful writing, whether it's post-game analyses in the battle reports or the design notes about that month's releases. It's probably not worth $10 and it isn't as good as it was in the early 2000s, but it's not terrible.

Battle reports are terrible. Or at least the last 3, which are the issue I bought, are. They completely fail to show tactical maneuvering, instead showing really up close pictures of some models or a few very widely space pictures of the overall table. A long time ago they used to have fairly basic drawing of the table and terrain with the troops represented by blocks and showing the movement for each player's turn. That made following the battle far more interesting. Doesn't look as pretty but it was far more informative. Rest is mostly self advertising as others have said and some occasionally useful painting guides.

Are you afraid that someday you'll be in a completely different country and desperately want to buy GW products, but be cut off from all internet access and only have your beloved WD store directory to help you? Sure, buy WD and enjoy your endless pages of redundant information. Otherwise just get better content for free on any random forum/blog.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Every now and again an issue will come out that is a good read. But by and large they sit in my bathroom half read until i eventually thrown them in the bin - sometimes they dont get opened at all if it is LOTR or Fantasy only issue.

They've made a point of sayign that the new WD is bigger thasnthe old one - but that seems to be ecause every issue has a 6 page spread of previous golden demon entries.

My sub runs out in August and i wont be renewing - I'll read the new thread on here and if an issue comes out containign thing i actually want - i'll go and buy that issue as a one-off.

I picked up an issue a few months back for the release of the Dark Angels codex. That was my first issue in about 4 years. It was utter crap. Most of the articles are "buy this because..." with very little content. The battle report was dull and gave little to know explination of how things work, I guess so they don't give anything away and you still have to buy the codex'. The whole thing had a very stale feeling to it. A pale shadow of its former glory.

It's time to go full Skeletor
