I am having an ongoing issue with my local gaming group, no imagination. We play mostly competitive 40k. We have played Nercomunda and Mordhiem but only the core rules and only the core gangs or warbands. It gets old slugging it out in a non-casual play style. Every game has to be the A list or it’s not good enough. We hold tournaments and have tried to have themed boards but people bitch. Any ideas on introduce imagination into my group? I want to start and Ashland wastes campaign with vehicles for Necromunda but no one sees the point of building a vehicle they can only use in this game. I even introduced a boat I scratch built for a Mordhiem scenario I wrote but no one even blinked an eye or showed interest other than to say “nice boat.” The rules were just to raid the boat people played and said it was nice but when I said hey if you guys build boats or you proxy something we can try these rules I found. NOTHING, no boats ever showed up. I don’t want this to be a me bitching post I really want some ideas on how I can get some gamers to try using there kid trained and honed imaginations to think outside the 40k box.

If they're not interested, you might be just trying to nail jelly to a tree.
If you really want to try different scenarios that require specific models, you could try supplying the necessary models yourself. Not always a cheap option, of course, but if their objections are just to building stuff that they will only use once, that's often a way to resolve the problem.
If you're running tournaments, try getting in a single non-standard scenario amongst the normal stuff. Assuming that what you are introducing is decent, that will get them used to the idea.
Alternatively, just find different people to play against. Sometimes a group just isn't going to go for the sort of games you want to play.

Honestly man, don't bother. Can't stand this type of player and sadly they're all too common in this game. There are theme players out there, you'll just need to go looking for them!

Thanx for the replies. Maybe i am just barking up the wrong tree with the guys I play with. I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere so finding a new group is hard. Its not like I am 12, I am freaking 32 with kids. I play games cuz when i stop I will be old. But i started to play 40k cuz I had seen what people made out of some of the kits and was blown away. Saddly I cant find people interested in my area in that kinda play. Unless its to make something more winning then it already is.

Maybe you have tried this. But, have you asked the group what they think could be done to mix things up a bit? Try approaching the player that you judge to be most open and try and build interest with them first.
I can understand why they wouldnt want to build a vehicle for really limited play though, that is not entirely unreasonable.

Different people have fun in different ways.
Your definition of fun is different from their definition. Which is unfortunate but that's just how it is.
I find both ways of playing fun, with a lean towards competitive play.
Really, your best solution is to either find a new group, supply all the extra bits yourself, or just deal with it. You are in the minority.

Thank you again for your replies. I think I might try the idea of suplying some of the bitz on my own. I curently hunting ebay for people selling off piles of vehicle bitz. I will also ask arond my gaming group for people to offer up some old stuff and bitz for the build.
