Now that 6th, FAQs, and the DA are out, I wonder how everyone ranks the Space Marines now.

For reference, here is the last thread that contained the discussion:

GK
SW
DA/SM
BA/BT

GK still have amazing guns, psychics, outstanding characters, special units like Dreadknights and henchmen, spoiler powers like Warpquake, Dark Excommunication, Servo Skulls, Psykobroke grenades, etc.

SW still have very efficient troops, cheap guns, excellent characters including one of the two remaining serious psychic defense options in the game, and the ability to get terminator-armored models in squads to help against stuff like Baleflamers and poor-AP nasty shooty spam like Necrons.

DA and Vanilla both have a lot of good tools and useful units, and some effective characters.

Why do people rank BA after SM, since BA are vanilla marines with FNP/FC and cheap transports? Plus Death Company.

Because of the force multipliers within Codex Space Marines, better allies options, units like the thunderfire cannon, bike troops, etc. They even have Stormravens now. The things that made BA special snowflakes aren't as good anymore.

1) Grey Knights
2) Chaos Space Marines
3) Space Wolves
4) Space Marines
5) Dark Angels
6) Blood Angles
7) Templar

I think the Grey Knights still have the versatility to be on top, more so with their best buddies in the whole world, the Necrons.

I see the Chaos having lots of power beyond that of Heldrakes... but Heldrakes WRECK Space Wolves with no solid anti-flyer available to the poor pups. I still say they're better than vanilla marines, but that gap may be over thanks to awesome new TFC and they now have TWO flyers along with their gross special characters who actually do things for the army. The new Dark Angels are above the Blood Angels as they have more potential as a newer codex, but that may be swapped out. The Blood Angels need love. What made them good is no longer that powerful for power armor dudes.

And well... the Templar... hey, you can still have drop pods with Deathwinds that fire the turn they come in. That's pretty neat, huh?

I'm still surprised to see codex:space marines so low on people's list. I'd rank them

1-GK
2-C:SM
3-chaos
4-SW
5-DA
6-BA
7-BT

Now with that being said, I've never played against the black Templars codex, and dark angels would have been higher if it weren't for the new PFG FAQ. What do space wolves have to deal with flyers? Prescience long fangs? Logan wing has problems in and of its own even if it doesn't have to worry about helldrakes.

This is the usual command loop for me, as a Space Wolves player...

if(flyer =/= Heldrake)
- ignored

else
- OHGODOHGODOHGODOHGODOHGODOHGODOHGODOHGODOHGOD

Haha that Legit made me laugh ;p. I always ignored flyers before the helldrakes came out, but its prevalence now forces you to not ignore flyers anymore.

Usually for me, Quadgun and pray? I have been looking at taking Scout Sgt Telion off it and bringing in Inquisitor Coteaz and an Icarus Lascannon. Gain rerolls to hit with it using Prescience, and have "I've been expecting you" if he wants to flame my squad off of it (which will have Crusaders up front to protect the squishy Inquisitor and his monkey friends!).

It's a thought. Plus, I can use a Stormraven, too. Filled with Death Cult Assassins. And that's never a bad thing.

Edit: Oh, and my SoB get a 6++ vs the Heldrake! YEA!!!!

GK still at the top no doubt, strike squads and purifiers are still undercosted for what they bring (less so now if the new marines codex will follow the points standards set by CSM and DA, which it most certainly will). I think next is a tie with Vanilla and CSM, used to be CSM was better but now that Vanilla Marines get Stormravens they're about dead even now. Space Wolves come next, the popularity of Heldrakes have really hurt most of their PA heavy lists, and they have no access to fliers or AA. DA either come next or are tied with SWs, not sure yet cause I've only played a couple games with a pure DW army, so I can't speak for RW or Greenwing. They're still a solid army though from what I've read and seen.

BA and BT are tied for being bottom crap tier now though. 6th Ed seemed specifically designed to nerf everything that made BA good (FC, FNP, 50% reserve limit, letting Vanillas get Stormravens was the final straw). BT suffer mostly cause there codex is so old.
