Hello, does anyone know what the best size of Plastruct I-beams to use with 40K bases? I am trying to build some Death Korps urban rubble 25mm bases and dont know what size to use.

Thanks.\\

I beams come in all sizes from just a couple of hundred mm to over 1m, so you can pretty much choose any size you like.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Real I beams are made in everything from a few inches in width/height to multiple feet in width/height, so really you just need to think about how big the original buildings were that the rubble is from. If you don't want it to overtake the ~28 mm models, I wouldn't go over 3-5 mm.

The right size will be the right size, regardless of what the right size might be...

For generic base scatter, smaller can be better. You dont want to overwhelm the base.

However, you might have someone in a "Captain Morgan" pose, with one leg up resting on something... In that case, the right size is high enough for that. You might also have a weapon braced against a beam...again, it needs to be high (or low enough) to look right.

I have also used H-columns sticking up in the air as something a figure is hiding behind/leaning against...those tend to look better when the flange is wider...almost as wide as the figures body, but atleast as wide as their head.

Another thing is with large models. Although there isnt much in the realm of walkers and robots for the DKoK, if you had a sentinel the size looks pretty good larger. You can even put one under a foot and crush it a bit where the foot is to show the weight of the machine.

It isnt odd to find more than one size in real world construction as they will often be speced for various applications. Order a few sizes and play around with it...they are not that expensive after all.

I've also found that model railway rails work nicely for a variety of uses. They are also pretty sturdy metal so can be load bearing as well.
