Hi all, Im new and Im excited to start a 40k army. Im fairly set on Space Marines (im a modeler first and I like the aesthetics) but i had a question: What should I buy first? Im wondering what you would suggest for my first... lets say 4 purchases. Essentially, i want to hit the game board asap, and start learning it all! Any thoughts?
Also: I see on ebay that I could get Dark Angel space marines pretty cheap.... could I use them as regular space marines?

I doubt anyone would gripe about you using the DA from the starter set as "vanilla" marines. Be aware that they DO have their own codex, and you might like their playstyle. There's several legions of Space Marines that have their own codexes and it might be worth your while to find out of you like one of the more specialized flavors. The first thing you want, even before you buy models, is the main rulebook and the codex for the group you are interest in. The newest starter set is a great way to get a bunch of really good marines for cheap, AND you get the rulebook with it. You can always sell the models you don't want, if you're not interested in chaos. Just do a bit of research before you start buying models.

Welcome! Since you like modeling I recommend that you start with troop transport vehicles, land speeders and bikes. Those models should give you good opportunities for detailed modeling.
