For any of you that have the Tau codex, or have access to one, look at page 74 and examine the Tau model raising a knife at the bottom of the page. He is raising the knife while it is still in the sheath.... Fail GW..Fail.

Tau knives are ritualistic and not meant for combat. I'm assuming the picture you're seeing is the Tau Fireblade model, that's how it comes stock.

do you mean the Fireblade? The Tau detest close combat, the blade is probably a representation of the Taliserra bond that he has with his firewarriors. Also it looks cool and his name has blade in it.

Ah, I see. It was indeed my oversight. Still funny though.

I like to imagine one of two things - either that he's admonishing a Fire Warrior for dropping it, or that it has to stay sheathed or he'd hurt himself because the Fireblade is, in fact, ACTUALLY ON FIRE.

It would have been more of a fail if he was actually holding the blade by the hilt in that position.

I see this more as him yelling at his troops... "See this? This is what we swore by. This is what we live by. And this, by damn, is what we will die by."

I came to this thread expecting a new Tau named character. I was disappointed.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.

Commander Oversight?

What is he? Water caste accountant supreme?

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Tis a bonding knife, he is reminding his troops of the bond they have and the pact that was made. The pact....of +1 leadership! *Dramatic!*

Oh also they are ritualistic and not meant to be used for cc as others have stated.

You wanted to know why Tau are only WS 2? Well there's the reason.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

That actually made me guffaw, in a medium where "lol" means "I smirked a bit". Well done sir, exalted!

Shas'O-versight?

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Earth Caste Ombudsman.

Also, it's not exactly an uncommon gesture to hold a blade aloft by the scabbard. It's a lot like raising a rifle by grasping it in the middle, not so much a combat move as a show of defiance/inspiration.

He's the worst commander the Tau has to offer.

I will never be able to look at the Fireblade model again without thinking about this. I'm going to have to convert mine or something to avoid laughing every time I pick him up.
