So, my friend plays black templar and I don't know if anyone has pointed this out, but here is what the drop pod assault rule states in the BT FAQ
"Page 22 – Drop Pod Assault.
Replace this entry with the following rules:
“Drop Pod Assault: Drop Pods must enter play using the Deep
Strike rules. At the beginning of your first turn, choose half of
your Drop Pods (rounding up) to make a ‘Drop Pod Assault’.
Units making a Drop Pod Assault arrive on their controlling
player’s first turn. The arrival of the remaining Drop Pods is
rolled for as normal. A unit that Deep Strikes via Drop Pod
cannot charge in the turn it arrives."

They didn't put the part about them being forced to disembark so now he drops his crusaders into a av 12 open topped bunker and shoots his melta guns out. Is this legit, or have I missed somewhere in the codex that states they must disembark on another page? Or is this just a huge over site on GW...

That's correct. As it currently stands, there is no rule requiring the unit to disembark when the pod lands.

It's a fairly safe bet that this is an oversight, though, so few people actually play it that way.

I was worried that was the case. Thanks for the quick response.

This is the 2nd time I've seen this mentioned and I'm confused.

That entry is specifically regarding the Drop Pod Assault rule. It mimics the same rule, almost word for word as in the Space Marines Drop Pod entry which also does not reference disembarking in that portion of the units entry.

How is it that people are thinking the special rule about Drop Pod Assault needs to reference the forced disembark?

The Drop Pod Assault rule within C:BT is what mentions that the models must disembark (in the newer codices, its part of the Transport part of the entry), The entire DPA rule is replaced with what is specified in the FAQ, which leaves out the requirement to immediately disembark. However, Per the actual entry, once disembarked, the passengers cannot re-embark, so a different unit could embark into a BT DP as long as they were not dropped in by it.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Yup, with the FAQ replacing the entire DPA rule, there is simply no rule in the BT codex that requires models to disembark.

I've never thought of that one, that's awesome!

Just kidding, my crusaders need close combat ;p

I feel it's worth mentioning, the vehicle counts as having moved at cruising speed, so the melta guns can only snap shot from inside the drop pod, as opposed to, if they disembarked they would be able to fire at full BS.

So really, you are probably better off if he keeps them in the pod, not only is their shooting less effective on the turn they land, but it gives you a chance to shake or stun the pod and render the meltas less useful for a further turn.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Does a Drop Pod even have firing slits?

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

It doesn't need them. It's open topped.
