Aye up PDH great start

Here are my wips of the tzeentch warband led by Clovis Eichelberger the sorcerer with his twin brother Lothar the Warrior Champion, and three tzaangors in the foreground.

I rolled..

one Champion with acid excretions ( sweats acid ) and acid for blood and a magic frost sword He also has one spell to choose from the mighty tzeentch.. wondrous gifts !

Five Chaos dwarfs with crossbows

Four beast men ( one with a ravens head ) which I swapped up for Tzaangors with bows and spears, so i could have fun modelling them

three skaven with spears ( one with a tentacle arm mutation ) and one with one eye.

@ Llamahead , Yep far too pedestrian for Tzaangors , I am trying to cpature the spirit of the faun or satyr with my Gors.. who have been blessed by the changer of ways.. I have never actually seen a tzaangor modelled i dont think although some of the early broo luck like what i am trying to capture

Tzaangors & Pestigors from the Realm of Chaos slaves to darkness

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Number 12 on from these Realm of Chaos beatmen could be one though..

@ PDH I love this guy , his head will make a mighty fine trophy for my champion ;-) although he needs more eyes.. lots more eyes..

@ llamahead , i think i must have missed the beasts of chaos book .

@ Medium of death quote " The eyeless Tzaangor at the front left is particularly creepy "
He is the leader tasked with keeping the newly turned tzaangors in place.

@ Rogue cheers

@ Remi , yep tzeentch all the way , i will teach papa nurgle the error of his ways

These were my initial turnskin and caprigor mocks ups before they were tzaaned up

@ bruticus

The dwarves will be pretty much stock I think I love the Edgar skomorosky ones and wouldn't want to mess too much with the lovely sculpts , maybe add a few old school horns though and the odd arms swap... they will be black smiths primarily out caste demon forgers .. tempted to join clovis's war band to learn the secret magic of tzeentch , they are creating a suit of magic armour for Lothar , as his gifts negate the ability to wear normal armour for long , it just dissolves ;-)

I agree with llamahead , brilliant painting on those Prestigors mate.

Well Like Peter I didn't get much stuff completed on this project - but I recently became re inspired with finishing off the Tzaangors after researching some wonderful depictions of medieval devils ;-) - Part of this project included us creating a secret piece of scenery - something I completed nearly a year ago after a flush of inspiration - it has been sitting idle for a while and I am not sure if I will be completing this project any time soon, so I thought i would pop it on here as well.

@GiraffeX - thanks bud- I have some wip shots of the build if that helps ? I use 3mm -5mm mdf for basing usually its very light and quite strong - and can be cut with a sharp craft knife - well if you use several strokes

@Medium of Death - cheers I think the way the light fell in the first pic is cool. still needs lots of little finishing touches though- like the skulls painting and some scatter moss flock i think - also not really happy with the stone work in the ruin but it will do .

@KrautScientist - Hey Mate , I nearly posted this on Opus after your blog - but I bottled it - as for the other offer - I would have to stop buying forge world products so i could afford it

Aye up folks..

first off , many thanks for all the comments and crits

@Johnnyhorse hope you enjoy what's left to come mate thanks

@PDH it pleases me to hear i can blow you off every now and then

the swords were a right bugger tbh, there are loads of pins in that left arm , and then i had a glue incident that obscured the detail of the hand i should of just bought a new one but i didn't want to be beaten ( read i am cheap ) i was originally going to use the same arm on each side but i kinda liked the size difference and the spiky elbow.

colour wise no solid contenders - probably not too traditional blue purple and white, but you never know - i originally wanted the beastmen to look like this

http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv215/dolorosa_photos/mywork/Vowed4s-1.jpg

but then i started researching mediaeval daemons and this struck my fancy https://gimmebar.com/view/53444023aac422e4688b4567

i do like the original painted models from the early wd that are quite vide or often muted , and i love the realism spiky rat packs chaos tzeentch dwarf - not that i can paint like Kari

http://www.coolminiornot.com/261579

really looking forward to seeing you beast and champion now mate - tarvelling with big stuff is a pain - and you still need to make your scenery yet haha

@Sheep thanks sheep , i am taking a week or two off to recover form the build and research painting styles i want to try to achieve, thanks yeah i really tried to bring the different elements together by using a few kits but that failed - so the horns became a unifying theme over all i think.- tricky really as i was trying to capture as many different aspects of tzeentch as i know of= fungoid - flame curved horns- horrors ect-- i did plan on adding a fish theme based on heironimous bosch and a serpent skaven , but just didn't have the time or patience to pull it off really -

Spoiler:

]

as for mold lines i spent a day cleaning up greenstuff and removing them after i saw my first photos- meh most have gone now , though a few still exist especially on the ridgy horns

@weirdingway thanks mate , i really wanted to capture the seductive devilish playful satyr / faun look with them - i picked up an aulos to use but never got chance unfortunately- well either that or the flaying of marsyas

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/33/Banquet_Euaion_Louvre_G467_n2.jpg

https://gimmebar-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/53444388a390b.png

@Logan Cheers - yeah me too , dreading it a bit though -

@monkey Thanks monkey- yeah i like the gors too - they were touch and go for a bit tbh and a couple never made the grade greenstuff wise- i did knock up a nice companion for the fauns though -
Spoiler:

@Bruticus

hey mate , thanks for the crits buddy - yeah i couldn't pull off the crossbow thing i did try but it just didn't sit right with the rest of them - but i do like the dark elf handbow sheaths though .
rat ogres took a while to come to life - i had loads of other skaven first , but none were working for me , and i love the stock models of these ogres so i thought in for a penny and all that.. i like the irony of the bird face rat that eats rats haha so tzeentchian to me .. moon face will have a pal soon and maybe get his own little crescent moon clan in the future .

there is a bit in realm of chaos that talks about tzeentchian flames bursting into life parodying the sorcerer / flamer and i thought this was very apt , cheers

glad you like lothar he took plenty of converting - probably the most actually but i am glad he retains the feel of a heavier original here are the wips

story wise, kinda based on the clash of the princes book - http://fightingfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Clash_of_the_Princes

@ dathbod - thanks mate

@Mister feral cheers buddy, i cant take creds for hand sticks though , they are an old wargames staple - the idea probably belong to John Blanche originally though..

i really like the horror hands after seeing the link between my old school fave fighting fantasy book series sorcery and the mr blanches work on the four chaos gods especially tzeentch

https://gimmebar.com/view/534439eeaac422da678b456d/in/4ef5069a2f0aaa2e2600001c

although i was not really trying to emulate that , just to capture a modern version of pink horror arm champion

https://gimmebar.com/view/53443bffaac4221a688b4567/in/4ef5069a2f0aaa2e2600001c

as well as pay tribute to Dale hursts original tzeentchian warband bird head men back in the day

http://eldritchepistles.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/bryans-cabinets-of-chaos-5.html

edit oops I forgot to add, the bits used for the tzaangors are , goblins lotr body, blood letter legs, one arm from the ghouls kit I think and the bird head is from the empire captain griffin familiar

@nathanie1 cheers mate

@Llamahead - funny you should mention the eternal champion - i have been thinking of picking it up recently -- well one trilogy anyhow

thanks folks

@ Mr feral , apologies for not answering your question earlier mate, for some reason I couldn't edit my original post .

The legs on the tzaangors are blood letters as you guessed, the bodies are lotr goblins, and one arm , the one with rock is from the ghoul kits ? I think, the bird head is from the empire general griffin familiar.

BTW I have called him PDF and phd on more than one occasion :-P

@ lamahead, I knew their were a few books but had no idea there were so many, I read they were in trilogies , it was one of the first books called the eternal champion I was going to pick
Up ,although I had read it wasn't the best tbh , but I won't be reading all 70 anytime soon though , thanks for the info on the hawkmoon stuff I will bear it in mind if I decide to pick up a book or two, cheers,

@ Migs - Cheers
@ Bruticus Thanks bud , I just need to sort out his extra thumb on his mace hand might give him a loose gauntlet or just leave it as a tzeentchian gift
@ monkey the snakehead guy is the dark eldar slyth, really cool model IMO.

@ pdh rum makes everything taste better ..;-)

He is immense ! that is perfect example of a beast of nurgle mate - just bigger and nastier... the champions shield and throne are great ideas , i have no idea what bits you have used which is a treat , the ant face is cool great use of the horns as antenna, no idea how you might capture the slug colour though , looks like you will need a dark brown base that blends with a karki sand colour upto a light grey and an orange dry brush on top maybe experiment a mottle effect.

he is going to take quite a bit of paint i imagine,

btw what is the base model for your champion ?

just superb work mate , i really cant wait to see the warbands together duelling it out in the chaos wastes!

Righty O , so not wanting to fall too far behind with the paint , and the deadline for finishing these bad boys fast approaching, I slapped on the dwarves tzeentchy paint .

These guys were really tricky to paint , so much detail . probably the most detailed mini i have tried to paint actually . it was a bit of a struggle as i am not the best at detail.. I wanted to capture the feel of a pre realms of chaos paint style of early warhammer fantasy , when models were painted with realistic earthy tones, as opposed to the brighter more fantastical stuff of the realms of chaos period , having said that the purple skin is pretty much inspired by this era . I guess because they are modern miniatures you can never really capture a bygone style completely , and i think the ended up looking like a cross between mierce miniatures famoriac as painted by the outstanding painter Sébastien Picque (of deadfishpainting.com) - and Julian baylis's marauders .

I struggled quite a lot with the bases , I couldn't decide if I wanted a snow effect , or a swirly tzeentch magic effect, in the end I opted for both ;-) i found a brilliant article about basing ice effects using clear crackle paints , which I followed to the letter , but in the end I went with a more simple snow effect, to counter the insane level of detail on the models .

Cheers guys.

@pdh big horns little feet. Tzaangors next if I can learn to paint skin .
@ bruticus thanks , not seen turkska's untill you mentioned them, they are brilliant, especially love muted tones.
@monkey cheers buddy I just inked over the paintwork on the book , let it dry a little and rubbed it back off with a damp tissue , seemed to give a nice distressed look.

@ giraffex these chaos dwarves remind me of the goblins from harry potter.
@jimmygrill, I picked up the book heroes of wargaming for inspiration on these. I reccomend it.
@medium of death yeah , I get that , I think its a well worn trope , rumplestiltkskin etc..

@cap'n thanks mate , its a bit heavy on the wash's but I think it works well enough.
@ize cheers buddy loving your Nurglii hand banners too.
@ Lamby thanks bud , yeah crackle paints are so handy.

Aye up..

@ Mister feral , apologies for the belated reply , the swirly blue bases are half & half light blue colour over a white base , ie citadel ice blue or p3 trollblood base, and a purple paint i think i used liche purple.. a varnush of tim holtz clear rock candy crackle effect and when that dries , a wash of purple ink.. it cam out better on my two champions though ;-)

@ Peter , absolutely brilliant , really good to see them together mate , blight wing is just gobsmakingly good, really gross .. the orange like others have said is perfect.. i like the dry rusty Armour shoulder plate best though.. shame he flew away at the sound of thunder , he really is a yellow belly

Well i cant match Peter's brilliant group shot , as i never got chance to photo the warband before the game we played , but i did take some photos of them in game . Thanks to peter for the rat ogre shot
