I've seen several arguments about the colour vet/sergeant helmets of the fists should be.

Just wondering if I could get some clarification on wether they conform to the codex.

Ie; termie - white
Sternguard - white
Assault sergeant - red
Tac sergeant - white

If im wrong or right please let me know either way.

I understand they are entirely my decision but I would like to, where possible to say true to the codex.

Thank you.

If you look at the codex it shows that white denotes veterans and red denotes sgts. A white laurel in the red helmet also shows veterans sgt status. Overall its a flavour to taste whether the sgts are red or white since they are also veterans. However since sternguard, vanguard, terminators, and command squads are all veterans it isn't uncommon that they all have white helmets, but the sgt having a red helmut with white laurels to be distinctive.

Carcharodon Astra, by the Emporer it is willed.

Or to denote vet sgt. status you can also do a white stripe on a red helmet for your tac squads. Then do your "corporal" who leads the combat squad with a white helmet with. Then from here do your termies with all white helms and the sgt here with red with a white stripe. For vets do white helmets, your corporal with a green laurel, your sgt with a red helm with a white laurel.
