I'm in desperate need of a couple of decent tutorials to show me how to do glowing red eyes and yellow-hot metal.

Essentially, I'm using head with a hood, and I need to emphasis glowing red eyes peeking out from the hood - but I've never attempted OSL before. Similarly, I've got 2 flamers to paint and i'm wanting the mesh on the end to be transitioning from yellow to orange, with a slight orange glow on the space marine's forearms - but again, I've no idea how to do this.

I've googled and youtubed to the Nth degree, but I just can't find a decent tutorial that applies to what I want to attempt - any suggestions?

EDIT: I'm guessing I can use wet blending to acheive the hot-metal, but even using flow-improver in my paints, when I try to feather the paints together they are too thin, or leave an annoying line where the edge of each strip of paint has dried - any help with wet-blending would be appreciated!

Sounds like your have two issues. first is the OSL and second would be the 2 brush blending.

Here is my absolutely favorite article on wet (or 2 brush) blending.

As to OSL, I'll let someone that's actually done it and had success help you there.

Good Luck!

Always try everything new on a test model or piece of sprue.

Yeah, I just tried it now - blending Flash Gitz yellow into Yriel Yellow and then into Troll Slayer Orange. Ended up looking like a semi-transparent yellow mush. :( Not what I want.

I didn't understand 2 brush blending until I saw this video, from ghool (the same guy that wrote that article).

For the OSL, you need to think about where the light from the eyes is going to strike. Usually this translates into a brighter edge effect and a blur of the right colour on nearby flat surfaces. The best OSL I've seen also tends to have muted, low light colours in the areq to be lit. Its more effective if the glow is striking grey or brown muted colours in the darkened area. If the surface is too well lit the glow from the OSL gets lost.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Well, considering the eyes are set back underneath a hood, I'm guessing that the glow (which is only going to be low level - not like a lightning claw etc.) is just going to be catching the top edge of the hood, a little bit of the inside hood and facial features. My problem regarding OSL is that I don't know how to go about achieving that.
