I've always wanted to create an "artistic" army... to really pour myself into a work. When I was deciding what army to play, I considered a few things... first, I wanted to play something drastically different to my Eldar... second, I wanted something I could get really creative with. While hanging out at my new FLGS, I was checking out various armies when inspiration struck... FOR THE HORDE! I've been painting and heavily modifying the Trollbloods army to be inspired by the Horde faction from Warcraft.

I've got tons of tutorials and works in progress on my website, http://www.WargamingTradecraft.com, but I wanted to share some of the completed photos here.

Of course, I need some ACTUAL warlocks to control the demons and offer buffs..

Ohh those are nice. The colors are really nice and the first guy is easily my favorite with his big ol hammer. These are all really well painted. Great Job!

Thank you I originally made his hammer from green stuff, then carved it out of stone and polished it... so you're looking at all natural there, besides the insignia and lightning arcs I painted on.

You can see that here:

The Pyre Troll is fantastic. How did you do the flames?

Thank you, I've put together two tutorials on those flames actually.

First is just how I painted the green flowing "lava" around his joints.
http://www.wargamingtradecraft.com/2013/02/lava-basic-fire-effects-infernal-pyre.html

Second, was on using gels and translucent paints to make the actual flames.

The gel and translucent paint would be excellent for slime effects. Even blood. Will definitely bookmark that. Thanks for the tutorial.

I really like all of them and the theme of the army, but that Infernal oh, man, it just looks so good.

And your tutorials are great aswell! Thank you!

So awesome. I love the infernal and Thrall. The troll spear thrower is neat too, but the spear looks a little to chunky to be throwable. But then again, Warcraft never was practical in any way haha.

Are the hooded mage guys supposed to be Dranei (not the weird ones from WoW)? If so, they look really good. If not, they still look great haha.

hehe, I guess they've got a bit of that look, but no.. the hooded guys are just orcs that I've painted up to be wearing the different warlock gear sets.

I look at it this way: you've got a big beastie troll throwing a spear with all that strength and muscle behind it... when the spear hits, it'll hurt

Oh, can't forget this guy... was going to paint him up like a stone giant, but I've decided to do the Mountain King that way instead.

Oh, no I totally get it. And I love the use of the shark teeth Just saying that they do look a little chunky compared to the troll spears in WC3. BUT these are also bigger chunkier trolls so yeah...

Ahh, gotcha.. yeah, in that regards, they are a little bulky. But, I'm not trying to completely replicate Warcraft.. just using it as inspiration to kinda blend the two armies together.

I sorta guessed it was Thrall (mostly by the blue eyes) heh. You painting really is good, and your drive to complete this artistic endeavor is appreciable. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread!

I've completed the final warlock in the squad, armour inspired by Tier 6 Malefic Raiment. Had a lot of fun painting the OSL and will be posting a tutorial in the next few days on it.

Which brings the whole unit to this:

Also, I've created a project page that shows all the models in their current form as well as their inspirations.

There's a "Troll Axer" listed under beasts who'll get the Blademaster treatment, including the art that inspired it.. right down to skulls swinging from the waist and totems hanging from his axe.
