I've only ever heard of anybody using Grotsnik with a squad of Meganobs rather effective but kinda easy to kite, not to mention expensive. I used Grotsnik for leading a 30 boy ard boy squad, originally just to eat up points so i could get to 1500, to my, rather pleasant, surprise it was very effective. It single handedly wiped out 2 Tactical squads and a veteran squad led by a captain. I also used it against a buddy who plays Necrons, i threw my bomb against his bomb, Oberon and 20 warriors and a necron lord with a Res orb. well it took most of the battle but Grotsnik beat Oberon, though it did take almost half my boys.
I find the benefit of this squad over the meganob one is that its very hard to lead them around the board as 30 slugga shots a round will eventually kill whatever is in front of them and 4 attacks on the charge from a +5 Invuln +5 FnP squad is brutal

Codex Dread Mob has an alternative to Grotsnik if you want to take a look.
The Painboss is just a painboy as an IC, same cost and stats. He can join any unit, take most of the boss wargear (PK etc), and confer a 5+ invuln on one squad of boys for 3pts per model.
The downside is that he can only take 20 strong boys mobs (unless you ally in regular Orks) and can only apply that invuln to the 20 strong boys even if you bring in allied Orks.
I ran Painboss, KFF, and 30 boys last night, and they were just plain scary levels of durable.

Theres some really choice stuff in there. A couple of Big Trakks with Supa Kannons are well worth their points and something the Orks were seriously lacking in.
Not to mention 15 Kans in one list for the Kan Wall to end all Kan Walls...

Ik i plan on running an Ork Blitzkrieg, Grot Tanks, a Dredd mob, the Kan Wall of Kan Walls, a Mega Dredd and maybe a looted wagon, with a ton of boys with shootas

Seriously man, try out that Big Trakk. Its like a Looted Wagon without the suck. I'm going to give it a go with a Big Zappa soon, might end up with a ded killy little tank hunter

I've run him with Cyborked Sluggas at 11 pts per model and regular Sluggas on the cheap. The difference was staggering. 5++ is way better than a sometimes 5+ cover which can be ignored and useless in CC. 6+/5++ is next to useless. The Mob is always Fearless this can never go to ground and is a PITA to move. There's many a reason MANz missile in Trukk is he way to go. I was considering adding a Boarding Plank but considering his "always moves in such a way to assault" confusing rules, a Boarding Plank is probably useless.
In 5th Edition I ran him with 15 Cyborked Komandoes and Snikrot. That unit was unstoppable. Too bad Grotsnik doesn't force an assault to he point that his unit can and must assault the turn they come on from reserves. That'd make Snik useful again.

im telling you, grotsnik in a 30 strong mob, maybe add in a warboss and a nob, the 5++ and 5+FnP is very durable, soaks up loads of fire, this combined with bikers gives a very tough nut to crack.
