Subject: Inquisitorial Kill Team - the "CEU" project

I've been toying with the idea of highly trained Inquisitorial Kill teams, the kind they inevitably need for clandestine operation and for jobs the Space Marines might not, erm "accept". Small units of super trained and armed Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, with Officio Assassinorum taught skills and Interrogator level learning. There would be only a few of these placed at planets like Nemesis Tessera, and undertaking the "blackest" missions of the Ordos. Currently the working name of the project is "Counter EnemiesOfTheEMperor Unit" Modeling wise they seem almost "perfect". I get to build and convert and sculpt for hours and then the painting takes half an hour, but still looks suitably formidable and fitting. There's something of a "arms race" of SWAT/Spec OP like things oing on here, so I want to show my take obviously. Gaming wise, I see them used in Necromunda, though maybe it's time to come up with proper rules for skirmish scale, more detailed 40k fights. They could also make for a pretty businesslike Stormtrooper squad for my =I= armies... but I want to build varied weaponary, snipers and machineguns, shotguns etc. So something like Necromunda is a better fit. Anyway, LMK what you think. Should I do more?

certainly a worthwhile project, makes for some fun figures, too bad 40k is not really set up or things like that.
Can you tell us how you made it? Is that an eldar body?

Nice project. Looking forward to see how it comes out.
I gotta say, Migs; between this and the Necromunda project, you're churning out a lot of nice inspiration.

Yes, please do more, and show WIPs. I wouldn't say no to a tutorial either... Also, as far as gaming goes, have you looked at other companies' products? My friends and I use a modified version of the GoalSystem (SuperSystem/Roadkill) rules (from WestWind) for skirmish games like Necromunda (In fact, I am currently creating a total conversion of Necromunda to GoalSystem so that we can play that setting with better rules.) SuperSystem is a great game in and of itself, but is wonderful for doing setting conversions like I do. Great work as usual, Migs. Keep 'em coming! Cheers, Eric

Very nice Migs. I love the lean look, although the unit's heavy weapons specialists should have their chests and arms bulked out a tad bit. It's hard to tell though- since I don't really have a marine and a guardsman for scale, but I'd say the general physique is almost perfect for the job. Next comes the weapons- the knife is very nicely chosen, and makes a good point of putting emphysis on the size of the grenade launcher. In the future I'd add some cool anti-grav suspensor plates to the heavier weapons just to make them look more techy and for the obvious fluff convienence. I'd also scale down the bulky thigh equiptment bag taken from the marine sprue. It looks to restrictive in terms of his movement. Finally, he's a bit short on ammo, but who's to say they just got dropped off for their mission I'll leave any gushing for other posters, I know it's not what you come here to hear Although you know I've always been a big fan of your work, and this model is no exception. Damn, I think that counted as gushing

Ignoring the fact that I gush about all your stuff:
Fantastic job Migs, really wonderful conversion and love the crisp minimalist paintjob. I'll admit I didn't think it was supposed to be a grenade launcher, and was some automatic shotgun/weapon of some sort ...
Definitely look forward to the rest of the team, and I too am inspired to try my hand at some =][= troopers of my own ...

maybe it's time to come up with proper rules for skirmish scale, more detailed 40k fights.
If Necromunda is insufficiently "detailed" for you, then neither Kill Team nor 2nd Ed are going to do the job. However, there's this little thing called "Inquisitor" you may have heard of... Nice model. As with the others, breath is baited for the tute. R.

Very nice model. Good conversion, bags of character. The only slight criticism is the unrelenting black. Even a small splash of colour would help to break things up a bit. Nevertheless, you are giving me a lot of inspiration for my own Inquisitorial armies.

Thanks guys! Good suggestions in there! When I get to do the next, I'll take some WIP shots. It may be A WHILE though, since I have a lot on my plate at the minute. The model is indeed based on a plastic Eldar, and the head is a shaved eldar head with GS, chainsword exhaust and plastic strip + greenstuff. Small but significant touch was to paint the base a lot warmer than usual, this really helped make the black look menacing and dark, instead of dark grey. I think my next army will be based like this, on warmer shade of browns and greys, instead of cold greys as a few previous ones have been.

I'd definitely use "smaller" weapons. 40k oversizes the weapons and gear, and right-sizing them would be quite characterful. The idea is sound. The Marines are unsuitable special forces...they are a hammer. And the =][= would need something they controlled, not the IG. Enjoy the modeling opportunities.

I understand you want to use more proportioned weapons, but the knife seems a bit off for some reason. I think it's the odd curving shape or maybe the angle of the shot. Or maybe it's because it looks like more like a butter knife than a sharp edged blade (though SM machete style blades are ugly in their own right, too). Besides, I think you're using a SM proportioned Grenade launcher? Just go whole hog and give him an offhand sword or something

Malfred - It does look a bit like a butter knife, Lol Well I just retouched it with blood splatter and it atleast looks like a pretty lethal butter knife now. Chuck - good idea about "resizing" the weapons. I've been thinking about usin the FW Drop Guard assault rifles as the basic weapon for these guys.
