So, I'm busy doing some preliminary work on my Orks. Mostly assembly stuff. I've still got some tankbustas to convert, some Stormboyz, and my 'Ardboyz need a little more plates on them. While I have four trucks, I've yet to build either of my Battlewagonz.

So, in my spare time, I've been thinking about how I want to paint my Boyz. I've decided that I'll not be doing the traditional green skin. I've been mulling things over for about a month now and narrowed it down to two choices. The first is based around Burnt Sienna as the base coat.

Should I go this route, I expect I'll make them Bad Moons as the yellow and browns look nice together on a model.

The second option is to try a greyscale "Mr. Fixit" (Hulk comics) type look. I think we've all seen heacy hitter's albino ork and that's what I am thinking for greyscale except for darker greys instead of all that white on the skin. I like the white and reddish brown everywhere else though. That model is a limited pallet masterpiece. But what clan to do for the greyscale? I've ruled out blue and heavy use of red as we see that too much already. If I go yellow for the brown ork scheme, I'd likely not want to use it for grey. Black would already be a shade for the metallics and actually is part of greyscale so that's likely out. I'm thinking I may wind up stealing more from Mr. Hitter than I'd like.

So, what do you guys think would work better as a non-green fleshtone for my orks? Burnt Sienna or Greyscale? Or is there another option that I missed that is pretty cool, too?

I like the color scheme in your image, though I'd stick to more the right edge of that spectrum - more of a yellowish tint to the skin. If you did that, I'd go Death Skulls though - Bad Moons would be yellow on yellow.

Blue trim on reddish skintone? Hmm... I've seen some fairly nice Death Skulls with a muted green skintone by Grimvar and it might work out on the greyscale but I'm not so sure of blue against a brownish red ork.

Personally I enjoy the bottom left pick with a shade of yellow. I paint most of my orks with green but I do about 1/2 of them or every other with a base coat of Tausepy Ochre and then do some highlights with Iyanden Darksun, both of those look pretty descend as long as you wash the model with whatever you fancy !

Get it painted up though. It's a scientific fact that unpainted models die quicker than painted one's.

Okay. I've decided to go with greyscale for my orks. The Burnt Umber/Sienna scheme will go to my Ogres which are up next for painting once my Skaven are done.

I really like the idea of an albino ork army, that scheme would be difficult to pull off though.
