Hey guys.

Ive never been a fan of elves (of any sexuality :p) but with the release of Getting High Elves i was looking at the Loremaster and it struck me... Can you do a THEMED Hoeth army? like Swordmasters/loremaster army?

also, what else would be in it?

I dont have the book and will use this thread to determine wether i will buy it or not, its Hoeth or No-eth....

You can paint your spearmen in Hoeth colours, ofcourse, as for most other units. You can't do an all swordmaster army, though. Same with Dragon Princes, White Lions and Sisters of Avelorn, sadly.

That said, this is something to take advantage of if you do plan on doing a Saphery/Hoeth army.

You can still do the old way of taking absolute minimum core and spending your 50% special options on nothing but Swordmasters.

You could even take Silver Helms as Core and say they're mounted swordmasters.

Every region still has mostly core. It's not like you go to Hoeth and there's only Swordmasters sweeping the streets and selling used books and making delicious tacos. Special are just special, even in that region.

So sure, if you paint them right, they will be Hoeth.

Yes, the Heraldry book makes it clear that all realms use Spearmen, Archers and Silver Helms to a lesser or greater degree.

You will not find a single realm without, at minimum, some form of the core options. This is a good thing, as it allows you to keep your themed army both within the fluff and legal.

That being said, you would not be able to field absolutely NOTHING but swordmasters. However, if that is your intended goal, I would recommend you stick to the following:

Loremaster(s), Mages, Nobles (BSB), Archers, Spearmen, Silver Helms, Sword Masters, Great Eagles, Bolt Throwers. Phoenix are quite useful, but I'm not sure where they fall in terms of fluff and lore.

Basically, min size your core, and if it were me I'd be using archers or spearmen, not both. Either a nice sized bunker (who, in the fluff, are typically assigned the special duty of guarding loremasters and mages and such), or a very large contingency of archers (30+ per unit). From there, as many large sword master blocks as your points will allow. I'd say units of 7x3 would be the minimum you'd want to go, and 7x4 would be better. Don't expect them to hold the line though.

You'll have good magic, will simply shred standard infantry, and the eagles\silver helm options do help provide some tactical flexibility.

Arguably there is one exception in the form of Nagarythe; but it is not represented well in my opinion.

There was a nagarythe spearman in the last armybook.

You cant do an army of just swordmasters but you can do a Hoeth heavy army - mages, swordmasters and archmages. Any way fluff wise every region of Ulthan raise their own regiments of spearmen, so it owuld be right to include some
