So it's...watered down Chaos Black? What the hell is the point of it?

Before I would coat a model in chaos black, wait for it to dry, then paint it. But with this stuff I have to apply two or three layers? I've been shafted by GW plenty of times before but this is the first time I've actually wanted my money back over being sold an inferior product by a (presumably honest) blackshirt.

edit - google fixed it. You have to shake the bottle solidly for about a minute . Though since I started the subject, is there a difference between this stuff and Chaos Black?

I think it's more of a grey-black color than chaos black. Try to see by painting chaos black, letting it dry, and then painting Imperial Primer over part of it, leaving some chaos black uncovered. After drying, you should see a slight difference.

Imperial Primer is basically similar to a gesso. It's quite adhesive, and provides a nice surface to paint over. Also good for touching up the bits you've missed on spray-primed models.

It does NOT provide a very good 'solid' colour in one coat. Two thin coats seems to be fine pretty much every time.

And yes, as you've found, in common with a lot of the new Citadel paints, you need to shake the crap out of it before use.

Yeah, you need to shape it and stir it for ages before it even remotely works...

To be honest I went back for Abbadon (Chaos) Black... The primer is really disappointing. Luckily the other "technicals" work great.

Well I only picked it up because I'm in a new city without all my old paints, and wanted something to base my models with. Fortunately I am getting both my Chaos Black spray *and* tub today...think I'll stick with them

At first I thought that aswell, but yeah, if you shake it A LOT, much more than a normal paint, it works. I have been using it, it works pretty well as the primer like it's supposed to.

I like imperial primer. It needs a good stir Everytime you use it. It does provide a nice surface to paint on. Better than painting on chaos black.

Remember how bad Smelly Primer was?
