Subject: Idea for flyer tyranids

so i was talking to my brother tonight and i had an idea for the tyranid 6th edition codex and their flying units. they wouldnt get a new model, but the gargoyles would change from jump units to flyers themselves. it would keep in focus with the tyranid fluff of the race being an unstoppable, ravenous swarm, and game mechanics as well in my opinion. the special rule that would be unique to the gargoyles (as flyers) would be called "The Hornet's Nest" which basically would mean that because theyre buzzing and flying around their target so quickly, the disoriented target has a harder time hitting them. splash weapons would hit normally, like flamers, frags, aoe missiles, etc. but single target weapons would have a much harder time finding their mark. tell me what you guys think =)

No. Gargoyles are completely fine as jump infantry. What would be really nice is if they got weapon upgrades - scything talons, spinefists and devourers. They're a breed of Gaunt, so not letting them take the other Gaunt upgrades just feels weird now, and it's not like Tyranid players don't have enough of those spares lying around to equip Gargoyles, so a new box isn't needed. It can hardly be argued that their signature equipment is a Fleshborer, since their original incarnation in 2nd edtion had the entire squad armed with Flamethrowers (er, Flamespurts).

Gargoyles way back in 2nd ed used to be able to do something called "Fly High", a trait they shared with elder swooping hawks. Basically allowed them to leave the board on one turn and return anywhere on the board the next turn. Could just do it as ongoing reserves, I think that is what it is called .
Gargoyles also used to use the hand flamer template. I would love to see them get an option to use a flamer template weapon.

I'd like the gargoyles to have the ability to bring down flyers. Suicide into the air intakes like they do in the fluff.

I'd like to see them get a dedicated aircraft-hunter coming from a dual-kit with the Harpy. If the Harpy is a biological bomber, then it would be nice to make an 'interceptor' to go with it. Not 100% on a name but for now I'll go with Hag.
Same profile as the Harpy meaning she's a bit squishy, except for S6. Her Vector Strikes gain the 'Tank Hunter' USR if used against aircraft. Finally, after Vector-Striking and establishing her final position, all fliers within 6" of the base suffer a single Haywire hit.
Fluffwise I imagine it as generating a whole lot of static electricity as she flies due to some funky biomorphs in the wings. On the battlefield this is discharged as she makes a Vector Strike.

Hehehe, read here. Shares a few similar ideas.
Anyway on the original subject, I don't know if it would be a good idea from a gameplay standpoint to have Gargoyles gain Hard to Hit against non-template/blast weaponry. They already have some resilience in that regard through their body count as well as the ability to stack saves on them (5+ cover, 5+ FNP). While the idea of an infantry flyer is interesting, a lower-body count unit like Shrikes (or Swooping Hawks) would probably be a better candidate since it balances out the durability granted through hard to hit with the innate fragility a low body count grants.
As an aside, if I remember correctly weren't Gargoyles described as being somewhat weaker fliers than some of the larger Tyranid winged creatures? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that they relied on Harridans for flying any significant distance and otherwise used their wings to glide about and harass the foe from above.

Gargoyles are basically jump termagants.
