Hey there,

To improve my painting and weathering I thought that I should start a PLOG so people other than my gaming mates could C&C my models. This PLOG is about my imperial fists that I have started to paint. I try to use my airbrush as much as possible for this project. After a bit of research I decided that I wanted to try a simple use of colour modulation on the vehicles. On the normal marines I tried OSL for the eyes, I think it looks cool, but my girlfriend disagrees and said it was horrendous. The colours didn't match, but see always thinks I have a bad taste when it comes to colour selection.

At the moment I have finished Captian Lysander, he was also my test model since he is made from metal and if I screwed something up, I could just throw him in the thinner. Also finished is a drop pod, a vindicator (almost finished), an ironclad dreadnought and a squad of marines. For the vindicator I still need to come up with a name and apply mud to the vehicle. The marine squad is still missing the sergeant, since I need some alternative bits and the lascannon marine.

For the bases I want to make mud, as seen on the lysander model and on the dreadnought base. The mud isn't finished yet, since it needs another layer of lighter, more dry mud.

that's it for now, C&C are always welcome

lysander (as for the red eagle, I thought it was too light, so I have repainted the eagle in darker reds)

drop pod

dreadnought (I removed all the black lines along the chips to bring it more in line with the rest of my army)

the vindicator ( I weathered it extremely to depict the heavy use of it, since I think an imperial fist assault should always have at least 1 vindicator as support)

the marine squad

On the vehicles, the transition in colours is quite odd, as you go from a dark brown to light yellow. I really like your weathering, though!

Really great painting. Weathering is top notch. My only comment would be that the blue glow around the eyes looks strange to me because you have painted it above the eyes where the light would not naturally shine.

Looking good, but the OSL on the eyes seems a bit strong to me.

Thank you for the comments.

@tappers At first I used a light brown for the transition, however for some reason I airbrushed it all yellow instead of leaving a band light brown. However at this stage I can't re touch that. A thing I learned from this is that whenever you want to do colour modulation you should stick to one colour and use darker and lighter shades of it e.g. dark yellow, yellow and light yellow.

@Depraved Thanks for noticing. I hadn't thought about that. Will fix that in my next try tonight, since I have removed the paint from the lenses.

@ Sir Samuel Buca What do you exactly mean with too strong? Is the area too large of the white too dominant?

These look fantastic, especially love that drop pod.

Have to agree on the OSL though, looks good, but extends too far up the forehead.

Definitely agree on the OSL, you'll have to think about where the light would actually travel, a hard edge overtop of the eyes means that edge is going to block the light from traveling up onto their foreheads. Something like plasma coils on a plasma gun isn't going to bleed down onto the sides of the gun because of the hard edge under the coil etc.

Also have to say I like your weathering as it looks good, just a bit too over weathered for my taste.

My work as a soldier is done and now passes to you for I have great tasks to perform in my earthly sanctum. I name you Warmaster and from this day forth all of my armies and generals shall take orders from you as if the words came from mine own mouth. But words of caution I have for you for your brother Primarchs are strong of will, of thought and of action.

A long time no update, but I have been very busy painting my fists army. I try to get more updates from now on. I have bought some MIG mud and used it for basing and to weather my vindicator and dreadnought.

I hope you like it so far, this is everything I have painted up to date.
