Hello gents,

I have and idea that i wanted to run across the forum before I expect to bring it to a game.

Can a space marine captain on a bike ride in a drop pod?

I know that bikes are very bulky, but here was my silly plan.

devastator squad with 4 heavy weapons (doesn't matter which ones, really) takes a drop pod for their designated transport.
I stick the space marine captain on a bike with them in the drop pod giving them relentless so they can fire at full BS after the drop.

i've read over all the FAQ and books, etc. and have found nothing thus far that says I can't do it.
But i tend to miss stuff every now and then
thanks

Relentless isn't a special rule that confers to the entire unit. It specifically says model in the special rule, so only the model with it would benefit from it.

However, the devastator squad can disembark from the drop pod when it lands and shoot at their full ballistic skill anyhow. The only rule preventing them from firing at full BS is "firing from a transport" that moved. They're compelled to leave their transport by the fluff if not the rules anyhow.

There is NO SUCH THING as MORE ADVANCED in 40k!!! There are ONLY 2 LEVELS of RULES: Basic and Advanced. THE END. Stop saying "More Advanced". That is not a recognized thing in modern 40k!!!!

I don't think that's quite right, when they disembark the drop pod they count as moving, so no full BS shooting for them.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

A Space Marine on a bike is not Infantry. It's Unit Type: Bike.
So it's not allowed in a Drop Pod

Any Dev with heavy weapons that moves is subject to the restrictions that apply to that weapon type. Nothing in this situation over-rides that.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

Just a brief note - if you're playing SW then Logan Grimnar can confer relentless to a squad of Long Fangs... Similar to the mechanic that the OP is trying to accomplish.

A 275pt silly trick, but is in fact, silly and the one the OP is looking for.

That'd be so silly to see a drop pod hit and a bike captain peel out like OH YEAAAAAA!

You missed a few important parts than.

As you cannot move and fire Heavy weapons at normal BS unless there is a rule to allow so.

Bikes cannot embark.

To clarify the earlier comments, this is a rule for transports in the main rulebook- only infantry (and not Jet or Jump infantry) can embark in a transport unless the transport's rules specify otherwise.

To the best of my recollection the only transport which can carry (jet) bikes currently is the Night Scythe.

Hmm... Yes I guess the whole embark thing will throw a wrench in there.
Also, I must have been mixing up relentless with slow and purposeful which does transfer to the unit.
I guess my shenanigans will have to wait till later.
Thanks for the help.

Not to mention, The drop pod is a dedicated transport, and only units that bought it can start off embarked on it.
A character is INSIDE the unit that bought it so it is part of it.
So no, you cant even put them in a D-pod.

You will want to check who can start embarked in a dedicated transport again. IC's attached to the unit that bought them are able to start embarked. So the only problem his plan faces on this front is that the IC can't embark because he's on a bike, not because he's not the unit that bought the transport.

If you want to pull this off you need a model with Slow and Purposeful. Slow and Purposeful is applied to units that contain models with the rule rather than the models individually.
