Forgive me if is is the wrong section, but what modern-day rifle would be the closest to the lasgun in terms of looks? I thought one of these:

Anyways, kind of random, but I've been thinking about this for a while now

What mini are you going with to mount these weapons? Imperial Guard? AMX160 pretty good. I know the italians battle tested that bad boy in Afghanistan. I actually saw one being repaired in our Small Arms repair facility at the 401st. Took a round in the lower reciever so the tech was putting it back in shape. Nifty weapon. SCAR just a beefed up M4 that fires I think a 7.72mm......look at a M14.....maybe M1....german G43...well first give me an idea on what mini's lol. I've to scale AT4's I'm about to screw around with on a Dakka Mini.....also a GAU 19 50 cal mini gun thinking of mounting on a Rhino..

I think the M14 has fairly similar lines, though of course you'd need to find a custom stock.

I'm gonna go with the FN as looking most like the Kantrael pattern M36 lasrifle, which is the weapon used by Cadian Shock Troops.

If we're talking strictly Cadian Shock Troopers, and if you don't mind stretching the word 'modern' to incorporate the last 60 years, then I believe the Lasrifle might have taken some inspiration from the FN FAL (or the British copy, L1A1 SLR) for the design:

The Kasrkin were just men. It made their actions all the more astonishing. Six white blurs, they fell upon the cultists, lasguns barking at close range. They wasted no shots. One shot, one kill. - Eisenhorn: Malleus

This is sadly more accurate than it should be

This or a G3 would be a pretty close lookalike as well.

Thankfully, most arm manufacturers have realized that sticking a barrel in a 2x4 and calling it a stock does not an ergonomic rifle make

Yeah, I've always thought the lasrifle looks like an FN that has been inflated with a high pressure hose.

L1A1's probably your best bet, but honestly with the wide variety of patterns in existence you could make a case for just about anything. I'm in the process of putting together a "lasgun" for a costume out of a G36C toy for example.

I agree. Not only are they pretty, but they have a similar backheavy look.

Someone said the G3 earlier, I think? That's another good one. A G3 with a bit of extra kibble at the end is going to look pretty 40k.

I wonder if that has something to do with the caseless ammo it uses?

What about the G36? Or does that look more like a pulse rifle from Aliens?

A Star Wars blaster is a British Sterling SMG with the magazine (or clip) taken out.

The Famas looks similar to the Elysian bullpup lasgun.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

Another example of World War Two's influence on the design of Star Wars, perhaps?

The Sterling was post-WW2 but it's obviously similar to the Sten gun.

Some Storm Troopers carried an MG34.
