Ok, so in this post on BOLS, Rictus used this method to weather his Plaguebearers swords..and it looked awesome:

"Swords – First they were base coated in Boltgun Metal. I then mixed up white spirit and burnt umber oil paint and applied it all over the sword, different shades of rust weathering powders were then applied over the still wet surface."



Does anyone know how to use oil paints in this way? Has anyone done something comparable?

I've been thinking of repainting parts of my Nurgle Daemons army to bring it back up to snuff, and i'd like to use this method on my metals...since it looks far better then the stipple/drybrush process i had used in the past.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I use this. just paint it on metal areas and it looks amazing! I use on all my ork stuff!

Red Oxide and orange paint will let you do a similar thing using acrylics.

If you want the extended drying time, mix the appropriate acrylic medium with your paint.

There's not much to tell -- mixed white spirits with burnt umber (to thin to a preferred consistency), then used various weathering powders on the still-wet surface.
