Following the enlightened debate we had about the Great Gatsby (sorry for dredging up bad high school memories for American members )
I thought we could move on and debate the works of another American literature giant!
Anyway, will the good people of Dakka be buying the latest Dan Brown book, or will you wait a few months for it to appear in charity shops?
Do you enjoy these books? Or agree with the critics that they're bad?

They're not great books but they're fun to read. I'll probably wait a few months to get them, just bought Arthur C. Clarks Odyssey books off amazon

I would have chosen 'will probably buy it at some point' if that was an option there.
Amusing reading the amount of 2 star reviews in the likes of Telegraph and Times, with comments such as "I couldn't stop reading it" said between gritted teeth.

Dan Brown is a hack and he fills his books with obvious puzzles which his characters, other than the protagonist, constantly find unbreakably difficult.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

The guy writes nonsensical yet entertaining page turners. They are the book equivalent of a good popcorn movie.
Won’t pay full price or anything but I’m sure I’ll be able to pick up a copy in a charity shop for a quid in a couple of months to while away few hours.

I read "Digital Fortress" and I thought it was terrible, predicatable, and not entertaining.
I never read any of his other work after that. Possibly, I was giving him a bum take on that one reading, but the book was sooooo bad.
I actually left it on a bench in the mall for some other poor soul to pick up, like a terrible curse.

Keep forgetting about that guy. So much to do, so little time. Automatically Appended Next Post: Pacific wrote:I would have chosen 'will probably buy it at some point' if that was an option there.

Pretty much sums it up. Tom Hanks + Dan Brown = dream combination. Automatically Appended Next Post: LuciusAR wrote:The guy writes nonsensical yet entertaining page turners. They are the book equivalent of a good popcorn movie.

That's my plan as well. Great minds think alike...plus we're cheapskates! Automatically Appended Next Post: Orlanth wrote:Dan Brown is a hack and he fills his books with obvious puzzles which his characters, other than the protagonist, constantly find unbreakably difficult.
So that's you down for a yes to buying it then? Automatically Appended Next Post: Easy E wrote:I read "Digital Fortress" and I thought it was terrible, predicatable, and not entertaining.
