Hey there guys. I found this tomb spyder model on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Warhammer-40k-Limited-Edition-painted-oop-metal-Necron-Tomb-Spyder-unreleased-/370803569346?pt=Games_US&hash=item56559d72c2 . Do you guys know anything about it? It looks cool but I'm wondering where it came from.

Looks really retro. I think it's from the first Necron release.

It's not a GW model. It's a custom fan figure designed by someone with jeweler's tools.

"This auction is for the very limtied edition out of print painted metal Necron Tomb Spyder complete as pictured" - So does this mean this seller can be reported as ripping people off? (Maybe even he doesn't know about it)

Maybe contact the seller directly, and explain the situation. If they're willing to alter the description and conditions of sale, then well and good. If they decide to keep it as-is, then go up the food chain...

lazarus-games is a re-seller. He buys large lots of minis from people then splits them up into individual auctions. I have bought stuff from him in the past. Most likely this was part of a lot he got from someone else.

Not a GW model. Cool, though. Reminds me of one commissioned by a player local to me back in 1999.

It certainly fits the aesthetic for the original 2nd ed Necrons... I wouldn't mind one for my old-cron force, but not at that price...

It was Jamie. I remember the day he got them. I believe he had them commisioned for the Vehicle Design Rules.

No, Jamie showed up a year or so later. I just checked the Wayback Machine to dig up the name- it was Jay Balunas.

I've been looking for that Grey Knight I drew way back in the day. Round the time Craig made his Grey Knight squad using marines and tau bitz.

That doesn't look like the original tomb spiders I know about. I remember seeing a picture and they were significantly...less awesome (rummages around on the internet)

Here you go. This is what origional tomb spiders really looked like, back when Necrons were Terminator rip-offs and not Egyptian rip-offs

Those are scarabs not tombspiders.

The original Necrons (well 2nd edition army anyway) has Lords, Immortals, Warriors, Jetbikes and scarabs. I used to have 1500points of those ugly things.

Gosh, sorry

I swear I remembered seeing those labeled as Tomb Spiders somewhere.

That's what I get for talking about stuff I've never seen myself. I learned about 40k in 3rd and didn't start playing until 4th.

Well for a while in 3rd it's possible you could have seen some of those oldcrons around.

I do miss the individual scarabs. Always fun to charge then EXPLODE!

This is the original tomb spyder which was released with the previous edition of the codex.
