I've got a friendly game against a TAU player on Saturday. Since I am not at all familiar with the new Tau codex, I'd love some advice on what to do to fill out the last 120 points of this list. Mostly, I'm just deploying the stuff I have that's painted. So here's what I've got so far...

i am not an exp by any means but i would say drop one of the wolfen from a plasma squad if your planning on useing them in a fire support role as unlikely all three squads will get into assult.
Also you have forgotten to add the points for the chooser on your rp costing.
I would think three rhinos as your only armour is only going to last one round of shooting and agsint Tau prob not even a whole round at that after which those thunder wolves are going to be blown of the board as i simply dont think they can take the amount fire that can be thrown at them esp once they get into rapid fire range .
I only have limited exp but i would suggest use of some Space wolf shenangians via the use of wolf priest and saga of the hunter and maybe even scouts to get some grey hunters over the board and into his lines.
A pod with RP and 9 gh is also a great way to do some major damage of the bat and get him on the back foot
Well, AV14 in at 1500 point game is pretty mean. I'd drop two ML (one from each Long Fang Pack), a Rhino, and a single Thunderwolf model. Take a Land Raider of whatever. Fill any points you can back into a Power Weapon for your Grey Hunters in the LR if you can. Swap out LL for Murderous Hurricane and take the Rune Priest in the Land Raider with the 10 Grey Hunters if you can.
My reasoning is this:
1) Land Raiders are big, so its easier to screen your TWC with them AND some powers from your Rune Priest (well, the Runic Weapon for sure anyways) measure from the hull
2) Land Raiders are tough, so at least one of your Grey Hunter Packs is likely to make it where you need to (AV 11 is gonna suffer against Tau)
3) The added firepower will likely become important
4) You can assault out of the thing, so that GH squad and TWC are going to hit him hard.
Tau are like Eldar Pathfinders: They melt in the assault phase. Just make sure you do all of this with the Meltagun Grey Hunters, or get some Flamers.
What about taking another rune priest with JOTWW, reworking with just enough GH to get the spare pod and then chucking that into play in T1? Might keep the shooting off the TWC for a turn?

Well here's the thing. He's seen me do the Drop-Pod-Melta-in-your-face trick a few too many times. He's wise to it. So combine that fact with the problem that I only have one pod AND he's got the new Tau 'dex with lots of 'interceptor' add ons and you'll have to conclude that any squad that goes into that pod probably won't live long enough to shoot it's meltaguns / JotWW.
Frankly, I don't think the TWC are really competitive against his army with tons of firewarriors that can provide mutual overwatch. But I've just finished painting them masterclass and I want to show them off.
The Land Raider is an idea I may try although I usually reserve that trick for 2000 point games.

I think the TWC against Tau would be excellent. They can move fairly quick and they put out a lot of attacks. Tau also don't have a whole lot of AP 3, and next to none of that in the Assault Phase.
And keep the Rune Priest. Sure, you only really benefit from the Powers and the Chooser, but Grey Hunters + Wolf Standard should be able to take on any unit the Tau have in close combat. So you don't really need Fearless or Preferred Enemy.
The only problem is that Tau have a boat load of overwatch shooting. It's not AP3, but it's still like 20 S5 shots per firewarrior squad, and now he can have all squads within 6" of the charged squad shoot overwatch. That's plenty to wreck my TWC.
But I'm still going to play them I think.

Except it's not possible to outflank a landraider, it's not a dedicated transport.
While tau may not have AP3, TWC don't tend to die to AP3, they tend to die to massed fire. The T5 normally helps a little, but Firewarriors have Str:5 weapons. Charging TWC into Firewarriors is a great way to lose the TWC.
I like the idea of GHs in a LR. It's not common, and with a Rune Priest or Wolf Priest you could really shock a lot of people. However, I'd make it a LRC rather than redeemer. I'm just not a fan of the redeemer at all.

What's the plan for the game if you use that list? Keep one unit of GK and the LF behind the ADL? Send the LRC up the board with the TWC getting cover?
I'm wondering about the usefulness of the Rhinos is all. I'm pretty sure they'll die T1 unless you reserve them so wondering if there is a better use of the points.
Stating the obvious, once you can get something into assault, the overwatch issue becomes much less. So, for an off the wall thing, what about a lone wolf (or two) with Termi armour and a combi flamer? You can walk them up near the LRC, they are a bit of a threat, but devoting an entire squad fire at them may not appear worthwhile to the opp.

If I had drop pods, I would play them but right now I only have one. So that idea is pretty much out.
As for the Rhinos, I was going to use them with the Land Raider as a moving shield for my TWC to hide behind as they move up. I don't really expect them to survive. I don't really know where the Grey Hunters will go. I will decide at set up time. I will keep open the option of riding in the rhinos and shooting plasma + melta from the hatches until I'm close enough to charge.
The long Fangs will sit behind the ADL and shoot. Krak missiles at light vehicles of course, but against Firewarriors, frag missiles work great. Also the Heavy bolters are AP4, so they squish any firewarriors who are not in cover.
I'm not really expecting this to be a super competitive game. Just a fun game.

Lone Wolves can't have drop pods.
