A good list, I would say, is:

CPU: AMD A10-5800K. From Ebuyer, the retail edition is about £100. Comes with integrated graphics roughly equivalent to those of a console, and is a pretty nice processor.
RAM: Crucial 4GB. Cheap and cheerful, for small games this will be more than enough. About £25.
Hard Drive: Toshiba 500GB Internal Hard Drive. Cheap, SATA III drive that should be enough. From Ebuyer, £43.
Motherboard: MSI FM2-A55M-E33 A55 Socket FM2 VGA HDMI 8-Channel Audio mATX Motherboard. £43.
PSU: Tesla 500W 12cm Fan ATX PSU . £15 from Ebuyer. Should be more than enough power.
Case: Fractal Design Core 1000 MicroATX Case. Fits everything, good ventilation as well. £30 from Ebuyer.

All prices here based on Ebuyer prices. In total, about £260 pound.

You may want to post specifically what games you want to play.

Well I have a ridiculously expensive PC, so if you're on a budget then this won't be much help, but I have an Asus Matrix 7979 graphics card, a backup solid state hard drive and a 2TB hard disc drive, an Asus motherboard, a Blu-Ray drive, a Thunderbolt port on the back, and a whole bunch of stuff I can't remember.

It's a good rig, but it will cost in excess of £1200. For a budget gaming PC, how about going for a prefab with something like Alienware?

Why spend so much on computers nowadays? I spent less than half that on my computer two years ago and everything I play I can do so at max settings except for Planetside 2.

The circumstances where this is a budget PC and/or a good idea in general has not yet happened.

Actually, I'm not sure about the PSU and Case. You might want to check it out.

You will probably need an extension card. Do you not have a router?

As long as there are enough slots, it should work fine. I would recommend a dual channel, although if you want to play low demand games 8GB is overkill.

As for the router, if you're planning to use online games and platforms such as Steam, I would consider an ethernet cable due to the more secure and faster connection, although it might be quite difficult to achieve if it's a particularly long distance, although I currently have quite a long cable just taped around the sides of my hallway to connect. However, it does seem overkill. If you can't use the ethernet, and you've got money to burn, you could use powerlinks as well. If not, then it's problably best to just get a wireless connection extension card that just goes into the PCI slot.

Alienware is still very pricey.
The lower end PCs are around £600. They are, however, built to last. I have the m15x laptop with an aluminium case to protect it from bumps and knocks.
The hardware is generally top notch and if you where to go with a laptop alienware the m15x is your best bet. It is the most upgradeable one.

For a cheap gaming rig I suggest looking here:
https://www.vibox.co.uk/gaming-pcs/low-cost-gaming
They are relatively powerful and cheap.
My friend got one with an 8 core AMD processor and it's a great machine, the only downfall is the Radeon graphics card which just cannot compete with nVidia.

Wifi is seriously bad for any type of online gaming.

Get a physical connection if at all possible.

Alienware is ridiculously pricy. You can get the same rigs for half the cost off CyberPower or iBuyPower or even less buying the parts yourself off New Egg.

Since they got bought out by Dell, Alienware is not worth it.

And TBH is was debatable even before that.

Yeah, but at least then some of the rigs actually were pretty good (while still overpriced). My old motto for Alienware was "a $1000 computer in a $1000 case" and the new one is "a $500 computer in a $1500 case."

I see Alienware boxes come through work fairly often and it just breaks my little heart EDIT: Especially since half of them are shipping to the local college. Aren't the youngsters supposed to be tech savy?

Yes, youngsters are supposed to be tech savy, but they are also susceptible to marketing practices and peer pressure.
