I want to start a new tallarn army, but i think there is little of them on FW. does anyone know how to make some towelheads?

BTW some color scheme or paiting advice is appreciated too! i really suck at painting.

I'd recommend a lot of guard bits and green stuff. That's bout the closest thing I can come up with.

Historics in 28mm maybe? Arab or Turkish armies I would guess, then kitbash them with some standard IG. Something like;

I used to know someone who kit-bashed LoTR haradrim warriors with the cadians, and they looked quite good. However the haradrim warriors are considerably smaller than the guardsmen. Also, he used the pack of 24 rather than the newer pack of 10.

Sisters of Battle can be used in any game, with the exception of chess, Monopoly and of course, Warhammer 40,000.

thanks, i was thinking about green stuff also, but the idea of the Haradrim is also good. if none would know something, i was thinking about taking cadians and wrapping some cloth around their heads. but i dont think that would hold for long...

Could try toilet paper soaked in PVA? Probably best with GS though.

As mentioned before, the old metal Tallarn range dating back to the 1990's is still available on the GW store under the "Collectors" section (and on Ebay!)- the Forge World Tallarn models were an early attempt to revamp this old range, but they never really went all the way with it and the old models are still pretty much the definitive Tallarn.

The metal models are nice... there's 8 different lasgun poses, all the heavy weapon team variants, meltagun guy, plasma gun guy, grenade launcher guy (no flamer), two sergeants (one with autopistol and chainsword, one with sword and plasma pistol), an Officer with a bolter, two rough riders, and Captain Al'Rahem. So quite a few bits and pieces, really. Unfortunately converting metal minis is pretty difficult, but weapon swaps and such can be done fairy easily.

You can attempt to convert Cadians with green stuff, but it's pretty hard to come up with something decent IMO. And converting an entire army of them... not for me, thanks!

I'd stay away from Haradrim or historical figures, since the scale is all mixed up for 40k. Just give one a lasgun and you'll see what I'm talking about- It'll look like he's holding a cannon.

(P.S. Here's some of mine!: )

talking about mixing with Haradrim, i thought about just taking a cadian and put a harad head on it. But that's also out of scale. not that it matters, look at the topic 'scale' in background and you'll know what i mean

There's also this offering from anvil industries:

Here's my Desert Insurgent sculpts - right now I'm sure Joel will agree were not sure how MOTN will fit into the longer term Anvil plans, we'll just need to wait and see as Anvil expands and progresses in greatness.

If MOTN can't find a space in the Anvil schedule we can just cross that bridge when we come to it, for now I'm grateful to Joel for running with MOTN so far!

Separate heads and rifles, same set up and scale as the existing MOTN range.

Although its not clear when they will be released...

I have a large Tallarn army so let me chime in...

The metals are ace and very hard to top. Word is they're now OOP but can still be bought on the GW site while supplies last.

LotR Haradrim have some good options but because they are smaller (25mm vs 28mm) you're better off using historical weapons like 1/35 gun kits than IG las guns. I tried them and found the bodies are very nice but they are single pose models and only about half of them have poses that can be made into credible riflemen. And they don't mix with the metal IG well.

Wargames Factory Persians are not that great but they are multipose and if nothing else you could use the heads on Cadians.

and sprues are on sale DIRT CHEAP

Perry's Sudan minis are awesome, not quite the same as Tallarns but could be an interesting conscript or penal legion. The main disadvantage I see is they don't come with enough rifles for everyone.

A bit off the theme but the Perry's also just did plastic Desert Rats

http://www.perry-miniatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_62&products_id=2843

Finally some folks have converted cadians into tallarn with green stuff

You can also kitbash Empire Archers with IG guns and maybe Persian heads

Honestly Tallarn are still cheap enough on Ebay I would go with metal. None of the plastic options are great and they would all take a lot of work.

Now if someone does a line of plastic Middle Eastern insurgents that would be great.

If I had those Insurgent figures, I wouldn't mind one bit when they died.... I'm not going to win that many battles lol.

The pick up truck would be a great sential.

Good find but there are some painfully bad minis there. Some winners, but some...

If you just want to do a modern Arab army I'd go with The Assault Group.

If you look on Youtube, you will find videos on how to fold a turban. I used the same technique with greenstuff to make turbans for a unit of gnoblars, and it worked out great.
