Hi Dakka, I've been out of the loop for a while and while searching turned up some similar questions non answered my question which is:

If I am taking two primary detachments, and I take Coteaz as the HQ in one allied detachments, can I use his ability to make henchmen troops in my second allied detachment.?

That way,then left

*snip* edited, found out I had misread the OP question rather quickly, but couldn't edit this.
On the OP's real question it would seem that yes, that would work.

No, he's asking if Coteaz is the HQ in his allied detachment, does his Lord of whatever special ability apply to the second FOC gained for 2000+ points.
Which I am also confused on.

"Lord of Formosa" (the Coteaz box on p86) says that warbands are Troops in an army that has Coteaz. The term "army" refers to all detachments, both ally and primary, first and second and third.

There is no errata changing this wording, so I think you're good! But you're going to have more than six Henchmen warbands? Post that list, I want to see!

So... wait... RAW right now, I could play Tau with an allied detachment lead by Coteaz, and take henchmen as my tau troops?

Are henchmen listed in the Tau codex? The clear answer to this is "no." Each detachment must be taken wholly from a single codex. You knew that, BRB 109.

Sorry, yea. I was just pulling out the rulebook to check (I wasn't sure if the detachment thing would be a rule they would even make, as it seems to be common sense that that would be the case, and rules and common sense don't necessarily play well)
Anyways, cheers! Thanks for clearing that up.

Seems everyone's a bit confused to the question.
No allied detachments involved.
He's asking if there are two Primaries Detachment (for 2000+ games) if Coteaz is in one, does his rule apply to both attachments?

And the Answer to that is 'Yes' as Coteazs' ability indicates they count as troops for your entire army, not just a specific segment of it. (as defined by your primary detachment, secondary FOC, or what have you.)

Does this "everyone" include myself, who already answered the question, or merely the single person who misinterpreted on the second post of the thread?

Thanks Elric Greywolf - you understood my question correctly (sorry to those who couldn't - maybe I could have been clearer.)

My plan is to to have two primary detachments of vanilla marines, and then two allied detachments with Henchmen as the troops choices in those allied detachments. - Which from your answers I believe is legal.

Sadly this is not for some master plan - just for a way to field my Coteaz and Karamazov models without having to buy a load of grey knights!

With the older codices, yes it is legal. In the newer codices the FOC slot changes are only for the single primary attachment.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Since Kapitan brought up Karamazov, I had a question. Am I correct in my reading that Karamazov can target his big explosion on enemy models, or friendly models, but not allied models? (Quick reminder, he has no Battle Brothers.)

Omg this is amazing, I don't know why i didn't see it sooner. Basically you can now write a super fluffy henchman list with Coteaz, up to 3 other inquisitors and up to 12 henchmen squads. I am doing it!

Oh yeah! that's a much better idea - now I can get a few of my other inquisitor models off the shelf and into battle as well. - the possibilities of 12 henchman squads is quite staggering. The only question now is where to get 144 stormbolters! ...

(quick calculation later 144 henchman with stormbolters = 1008 points )

Give everyone a Chimera, and take 6 Psyflemen. There's your 2500pt list. So. Many. KPs.

On objective missions that would be pure awesome. It'd be like if they suddenly issued storm bolters to guardmen. Man those inquisitors sure do know how to throw a (war)party.
