I was looking through my recently acquired 6th Edition Codex for the Space Wolves and I noticed in the pictures section it shows several variations of the standard Wolf Banner you get when you buy the "Grey Hunter with Wolf Standard", said banner being the banner of Ragnar Blackmane's Great Company.

The other variations shown where one of Egil Iron Wolf's Great Company and the other of Halard Deathwolf's Great Company, (said image is on pg. 70 for reference) the later of which has really peaked my interest as this is both my favorite company of the Space Wolves, but also the one my Warhammer 40k Space Wolf's self hails from.

My question is simple, is it possible to buy/custom order said Grey Hunter with the banner of Halard Deathwolf instead of the "default" banner of Ragnar Blackmane? Or are the other banners there simply to show one could make a custom Wolf Standard given the time, and none other the Ragnar Blackmane's are for sale?

If I where to make one, where would I start? And on a scale of 1 to 10, how hard would be, assuming I am a newbie to model making?

Thoughts, opinions, and helpful feedback would awesome.

None of those banners are actually for sale. The standard bearer pictured is a regular Space Wolf model with the blank banner from the Space Marine Command Squad box. The banner detail is just painted on.

How hard that is to do kind of depends on how good your freehanding is


Oh, and just for completeness, that codex is actually a 5th edition codex... Space Wolves haven't received a 6th ed book yet.

If you have a decent sculpting skill you could try to sculpt the details on. Especially if you trust your sculpting skills more than your freehanding. But it isn't an easy task and it highly depends on the details you want to create.

And here are examples of sculpted standards i did for my space marine army using GW's blank ones. If you want to go full sculpted or freehand it helps if you use a good reference and sketch out the details onto the banners before you sculpt/paint.
