The first of many DV conversions I have planned

For a chaos marine he looks "tame".
Don't get me wrong. The conversion looks good and all and i like how you used the sword handle as weapon grip.
But his armor still looks to much like a loyalist to me. What i would do is remove the sword from his tabard and hide the fact that his legs are "clean". Maybe add additional decorations like a chain with a skull or - if you have some sculpting skills - add armor trimming.

I've done something similar with my DV models. In this picture not all of them are finished (the sergeant for example) but maybe it can inspire you for additional ideas to chaosify your marines.

Was actually intending to use the dark angels from the DV box set as red corsairs, to go with my Huron Blackheart
Thinking of a paint scheme something like this

DV "murderwing" bike.
To be used as red corsair biker
Front panel is nearly done
Bike and rider base/primer

Kinda dark IMO. I prefer CSM to be lighter red.

It's just base coated mate. Still need to build the colour up.
Although they might still be a bit dark for you
Not that bright colours don't work well, I just like my mini's dark and gritty
Also, it could be my poor photography skills. Lol.

Not much painting progress this week, mainly because I've been busy scraping all the dark angels and imperial symbols off the mini's

.-. If you have any Chaos Space Marine Termys, you should really take some of the horns off the helmets and try and add them to the DV ones, because I don't think they look right without the horns :S

That's the plan. I did the same with my AOBR termies.

As you are playing red corsairs you actually could leave some of the symbols on. Just carve and x-mark over it. In the fluff many red corsair member still wear their original armor just desecrated and a red cross painted over their old chapter markings.
Depending on what style of Hurons followers you want to build you could paint some of your models in mixed worn down chapter colors of mixed chapters and just use a red cross over all imperial iconography. This creates a more unorganised "pirate-y" look. Maybe you could do that for your regular marines and use the red ones as chosen or otherwise higher ranked corsairs.

Your models are looking quite good painted. But i think the termies are a little bit to black for my taste. I'd paint at least the shoulders red as well. And i personally would either removed those shield thingies or paint something chaosy on them to give them a purpose.

And i know your pain of removing the DA icons on all the terminators. Mine have gotten the same treatment but i went into another direction after that, creating slaanesh noise cult-terminators. I know those aren't legal rulewise but i wanted something different with them.

Wow. Now they're cool. My AOBR termies are some of the first mini's I painted and well overdue for an overhaul.
As for my red corsairs they're only a small part of my army.
I'm aiming for a "black crusade" look. With a mixture of different warbands/legions

Looks cool. Bur what i'd do is remove the sword icon on his legs and the purity sealy on his other one. Also I'd remove the angel wing front shield. What you could do for that is file the wingtips smooth and fill in the wing structure with putty. Put chaos iconography on top - maybe cut a chaos star in half and add the halfes on top of the filled wings.

If you wanto to do that i'd recommend a hard cureing putty like milliput. Smear it over the wing structure and sand it smooth afterwards.

Something similar to what i did with mine. (this is a wip shot so mine also has his seals not removed. But the finished ones doesn't have them anymore.)

Terminator 1
Removed imperial markings
Replaced assault cannon with heavy flamer
Replaced powerfist with chaos power axe
Added chaos icon on chest
Replaced icon on chains with skull.

Terminator 2.
Removed imperial markings
Replaced storm Bolter with combiflamer
Replaced chain fist blade
Added warp talon claws to feet

I regret to inform you you need to solve the problem of the angel wings on the bikes. It kills the believability or me. I suggest either planing them smooth or converting them to bat wings

Yeah I kinda came to the same conclusion. Luckily they're not glued so its a simple job.

How did you flatten out the wings on the bike fairings? I've got a few I need to do the exact same to.

probably just a GS fill, some cutting and filing.

I'm interested in the second bike. I saw it and my reaction was "Heellllllooooooo pretty". I was going to ask for a close-up, but then I clicked on it. I can't put my finger on it, but that bike is missing something The fairing looks really good. I just can't put my finger on what it is that this bike needs to give it the feel of full glorious and unbridled chaos, because it's so darn close.

yep. poda got it. its milliput. i know it still needs something, im waiting for some chaos bits to arrive.

So no sanding or filing, you just stuck some milliput on it and flattened it out? Good to know.

yeah. i find the easiest way is to apply the milliput then wait an hour or so. Then smooth it out with a wet craft knife. make sure its wet though or the milliput will stick to the blade.

Looking good mate, however I would probably echo some of the comments above that some of the flatter areas such as leg armour and bike fairings need chaosified. I would go about that simply with GS, once you get the basics - and there's many good tutorials on youtube and on here - it's really easy to work with. However, if you aren't wanting to go down that route, then I would definitely consider getting a bag of chaos bitz to chaosify them.

I can vouch for your painting skills, having seen past models you've churned out so I've no fear the end result will be epic, but IMHO, I think you may let yourself down a touch if all you're doing is removing Imperial Icons and repainting in chaotic colours. That said, please correct me if that's not the case.

Well that is sort of what I'm doing, but there's a reason behind it. As I mentioned above I'm fielding these guys as red corsairs so I don't want them to look too much like regular chaos marines. I do plan on adding more iconography but I'd like to keep it subtle, in keeping with the fluff.
Speaking of fluff . These particular renegades are from the crimson swords chapter.

As for the chaos bits. They're on their way as I type, and I genuinely have no intention of letting my standards slip.
I just need some paint on them so I can field them.
I absolutely refuse to field unpainted minis. Lol.

Ahh, fair enough then, I can see it now. So how are you going to make them more... pirate-y? I can see from the conversions that you're already modelling them on the lines of weapon changes, but will they be battle-damaged? Or will you go as far as to mix and match armour sections to give them a cobbled together look?

Ooh nice idea. Once I've got them painted to a " as new" standard, I'm going to try some weathering techniques on them.
After that I'll see how I feel, but I plan on adding more troops in different colours, all with the rough red X on their left shoulder pad

I kinda like the idea of the red-cross, but wouldn't they just scrub chapter markings away to bare ceramite? Just as you've scraped of all the Imperial symbols?
