So looking through, i'v noticed of the many SM bitz that rarely seem to get used (pouches and grenades etc), one of them is the little holstered pistol. What even is that? There's no wargear entry for it, it's not a bolt pistol, I doubt the SM would use laspistols. Autopistol maybe? A piece of wargear from old editions? Just curious.

Just seems weird considering 40k's veritable hardon for WYSIWYG

Wysiwyg tends to only be for gear that you buy or trade out, everyone knows tact marines come with bolt pistols.

It's a bolt pistol without the ammo clip in. All SM are equipped with a bolt pistol, people just don't put it on for reasons of personal taste.

It just seems really small for an SM sized boltpistol. Ah well, wasn't sure if it was a left over from editions past or something, thanks for answering my curiosity people,

Bolt and plasma pistols are the only ones currently in use, and the holstered on is a bolt pistol. It fits in there the same way 10 marines fit in a rhino, don't ask.

Unless you are going waaaaayyyy back to the RTB01, where there was a holstered needle pistol on the sprue. But somehow, I don't think that's what you are talking about.

No, RTB01 had a holstered bolt pistol on the sprue and unlike the current one it was actually the same shape and size as the bolt pistol at the time (much smaller than current ones)

The box disagrees with you. I am such a packrat...

I know what the box says.

However, it's also very clearly the same weapon as on the bolt pistol arm.

It is a bolt pistol. I just thik they look arkward stuck to the model with no vissable means of attchment, plus its extra to paint, and you really just don't need to bother.

All of my Marines carry these. I like them to look like they have a backup weapon. Doesn't make sense for them to be unloaded though...

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.
