I'm intending on running a mostly footslogging DA greenwing 1k list (no bigger).

The DA part is just a libby with conversion field, infravisor, tacticals and a darkshroud. I'm looking for something with abit more of a punch that adds abit more flavour to the force.

I was thinking I could run a BA libby for shield of sanguinius to stack on top of the darkshroud cover and 10 vanilla death company in a rhino. How does that sound? What would you run if your were in my shoes?

Advice would be muchly appreciated!

I plan to add some DA as allies to my BA force at some point.

I was thinking 2 10man tac squads all bolters and a command squad with the dakka banner. Hq was gonna be a company comander to man a quad icarus lascannon (couldn't afford the quad in the lis) the ba libby with the dark shoud is a nice little combo which I've also been considering - not sure how it actually plays out on the table though.

Allies gets rough at 1000 points -- you have to purchase two HQs and three troops choices, which are generally not the slots that bring the most pain to your opponents.

For what you are looking for, I would take a look at Veteran squads in rhinos - you can probably do quite a few more vets than death company point for point, without having to invest so much into another HQ model. The vets give you a large range of weaponry selections, so you can tailor it to your needs. 4 points extra per model isn't too terribly expensive for the better stat line, particularly if you intend to wind up in CC with them.

Of course, taking a look at the other wings in the DA codex offers lots of possibilities, but you probably already know that!

10 death company with a rhino would be 250, 100pts for the librarian.
Everywhere I've read, veterans have been fobbed off as an awful unit...

How would you run veterans in this insance? I'd want them to be more TAC as opposed to just plain shooty like regular tacticals.

I run veterans with power weapons and storm shields all the time. When I don't screw it up, they are a nasty little surprise for my opponents.

Isn't that rather expensive? On a par with terminators? Wouldn't terminators serve the same purpose, only better?

Sometimes, I can't shoehorn terminators into a list. And terminators don't get power weapons with storm shields and bolt pistols.

C:SM Vanguard Vets are seriously overpriced. DA veterans are only 18 points per model - two points more than C:SM tactical marines.

What equipment is included in the 250 points for the DC?

350 points (the DC + HQ) versus 215 for 10 vets in a rhino would leave you 135 points, either to buy a whole other unit or to buy upgrades.

I run them with a combi-flamer and a power fist - but with my power fist HQ attached. Two attacks base is a big improvement over one, but buying lots of power weapons/fists just turns into a points sink.

For TAC, you're probably best off point for point with Black Knights.

Cheers,

I think it's a good move if you push up the point scale a bit. DA with SoD are by and large a stationary force so the mobility of the BA compliments them well enough. I recommend taking advantage of the highly mobile flamers, melta, and power weapons that you will have access to through them to get the most rounded force out of the coupling.
