I'm planning on ordering some foam from KR in the next few days so that my Dark Angels will have a home once they're painted (10 or 11 terminators and I'm done, hooray.) The sizing suggestions they give don't quite seem to work (since they have you fitting a 40mm base into a slot that's 32mm x 32mm.) Has anyone tried using the foam at those recommended sizes? The models certainly fit (foam is stretchy after all) but I'm a little concerned that the regular abrasion would harm the paint.

I can just use larger foam (it's what I do with my Sabol stuff) but I'm really trying to fit my army in as small of a space as I can (Ideally I'd like to be able to carry 40k, Infinity, Malifaux, and Warmachine all at once, and have room for a few options.) So I thought I'd see if people have used the tighter fit stuff with success, since it'll help with my somewhat silly quest.

(Of course, getting rid of the silly wings on the back of my Ravenwing would free up space too... maybe they'll get some pins or magnets at some point.)

Don't have any Terminators in that scale but the Urban War guy pictured has a 40mm circular base.

And you don't have any problems with the bugger getting bent/damaged or paint wear squeezing him in like that? I can definitely fit a terminator in the hole, but it's a snugger fit than I aim for when I use Sabol foam.

The soft foam is designed to allow them to stick up like that. The foam tray on top secures it down. The foam is incredibly soft and does not scrape paint off.

For the record though, I like to use the terminator trays for the more dynamic positioned miniatures as well.

This is a shot of one of my 6x3 trays, with a mix of old 25mm and AoBR 40mm bases.
The Sergeant (middle row, left side) slightly sticks into the slot above, so I tore the foam to make it fit.

This is the side view. This tray is 1/3 of a case deep.

Even though they stick out, the foam 'lid' the case comes with stops them moving about of getting damaged.

I think it is a F3H tray. You can fit 6 of these trays in a case, and mix-and-match with others.

I love KR, I am switching over to them entirely. Great product, decent pricing. I have heard they will have a new website soon in which you can list your entire army and it will build you the least number of custom trays needed to fit them all in.

Yeah, I've heard about that. I imagine it'll be a huge boost for them... right now you need to be a little dedicated to the idea of going KR if you want a case (or just take one of the premade sets and hope it's close enough.) Frankly I want nothing to do with Juliet's Lover, but I imagine it's a bit easier to figure out what you need from him.

Also, I just heard back from KR about the foam. They'll be making a tray sized for terminators (SM47) that will essentially be the D2H pick-n-pluck, but with segments already cut. I'll hold off my order until then to see if I want to go with that or the pick-n-pluck... I have a few models with banners and such, which probably won't fit in the precut stuff very well. Figure it's worth waiting a few days to find out though, rather than kick myself if I'm wrong.

Well prior to this new site, you can call them and they will note what you have, vehicals, flyers, number of troops etc and do the custom tray building on th fly for you.

So far I just have 2 cases that I picked up from my local FLGS. Untill I can afford to order specific sets for specific armies.

Seconding this. However, I just want to point out that if you're planning to storing a lot of terminators into one tray, especially itsy-bitsy-pointy ones with dynamic poses (GK Terminators and to a lesser extent, Chaos Terminators) don't expect to fit them all in and survive even with the alternating up-down-up pattern that Skinnereal uses. I ended up having to cut some of my 32x32s to fit 20 GK Terminators, a shame, really.
