I placed an order for tau miniatures back in April ish (not long after they were released) through total wargamer.
I did this because games workshop prices are extortionate and am aware that Tau are ludicrously popular.
So has anyone else placed an order with someone other than games workshop and actually received anything?

Nope. Never buy from anyone other than GW because a lot of these second-hand sellers will rip you off/take a super long time to ship. I don't recommend anyone other than GW.

Sorry you had to learn the hard way.

That's kind of silly. There are plenty of reputable sellers.

Total Wargamer, has its share of problems though:

Shill? Sorry don't know what that is. I'm sure it must be something borderline offensive. If its to do with my reply comment I just laughed as I thought I was foolish.

Oh no I'm not one of them although I can see why someone would make that assumption. I literally have no connection with anyone.
In point of fact I was actually thinking of cancelling my order with them.
I was just trying to get back into the hobby and wondered if anyone had similar experiences.

I've had great experiences with The War Store and various ebay outlets, never tried anyone else though but my FLGS. I haven't ordered anything from GW proper since 2008.

I just order through my FLGS. We only have one GW store and it is an hour away. I have yet to have an issue with waiting for extended periods of time for models including new releases.

Part of the problem is tau are basically sold out in the US for some of their units, so this is why. My local store hasn't had any riptides for a while. Glad I got mine two on day 1!

My FLGS (Games Plus), The War Store, Bitz Barn, E-Bay, and others have all been very good for my modeling needs.

I have never bought direct from a GW store or online from GW.

As with anything else YMMV. The second hand sellers that are a problem are the *exception* and hardly the rule. I get all my GW plastics from The War Store and they provide stellar service consistently and at 20% off retail. If there is a problem with something in the order they communicate and make it clear what the problem is, what they are doing about it and how long they think it will take to be addressed. Businesses are businesses. Some are run well and some aren't. They key is to deal with those that are run well and avoid places like Total Wargamer that have a questionable reputation. BBB.com is a great way to know the difference, because if someone has angered enough customers eventually someone will report them to the better business bureau.

It is silly to not do business with other reputable dealers because some of those second hand sellers are problematic.

*raises hand*

They might be overpriced; but you get what you ordered and you get it in a timely fashion.

The other US sellers that have been mentioned(notably: The Warstore) most likely deal directly with GW as their distributor rather than buying from a middleman--hence why they as well usually deliver in a timely fashion.

The US sellers that deal with middlemen? They usually are the ones which have the issues with late orders, things being out of stock, etc.

As pointed out, the issue you are having here is with Total Wargamer being a bad company. Since you are a Brit, use Giftsforgeeks, you'll still get a nice discount, and you'll get your stuff in a timely fashion.

I have no issues with Wayland games, and the other discounters that offer around the 20% mark, but delays are sadly inevitable just because of the volume or orders they go through.

These days I either order direct of GW, or take 10% off, either in person at Annatar at Lowesoft, or via mail order at Firestorm Games in Cardiff, FG has always got them to me within a week if its in stock, a little over a week if not.

Not sure if US retailers help you at all, my buddy and I ordered some stuff including Riptides and some crisis boxes from the Warstore a few weeks ago with no problems (Miniature Market was out at the time). Yesterday we ordered some broadsides and other stuff from Miniature Market, and they will be arriving tomorrow.

It's easiest for me to buy from GW, I know where their stores are.

I have bought from WLG before, good honest company. Would highly recommend.

the only 3rd party, i have used is Weyland games. they take a month to send anything. but the price difference between them and gw are insane. I saved over £100 on my CSM army, Because I bought it in one Lot, from Weyland. But if i want something Fast I order from GW, you just have to except the fact that if you buy cheep you wait longer.

It's not Tau, it's total wargamer. I would recommend against ordering from them again. Are you even reading the help people are trying to give you in this thread?

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

There are plenty of third party sellers still out there, and I've never had a bad experience with the one that I use. Pm me and ill tell you the name. I would rather not disclose it publicly. While I believe that they operate legally, it's not worth getting them in trouble.

I've never purchased any of my SW from GW directly. The only one I will will be Arjac, unless I luck out and find him on eBay.

I buy all my models, either from eBay or Discount Games Store. Not a single bad experience. They're kind, fast, and fair. I won't buy from anywhere else. Besides, I've yet to find anywhere cheaper. I recommend them to anyone.

As others have said, disreputable dealers are the exception, not the rule.
