So, my local GW has decided this Saturday will be the start of something called "Contest of Champions". The basic idea is over a 3 month period you start a new force to play in games (also getting points for painting). I'm guessing you all get the general idea. Now, the "ticket" is one HQ and a Troops choice. That's all I know for now.

I decided to go with Eldar as I've always liked the look of some Eldar armies and to be honest (while I love Dark Angels/Templars and GK), my space marine armies are all one and the same at the end of the day. For my HQ I'm pretty much decided on a Farseer with Singing Spear. However, for the troops I'm conflicted. I was so sure on Rangers (playing them as PF), but now I am wondering as I have read numerous articles bashing on them despite myself thinking them quite effective.

To be honest, I'm not "in it to win it", but I'd love to win more than I lose.

So, Any tips?

Well gotta tell yeh this saturday the whitedwarf with the eldar that is going to be released for next saturday is commin' out if you want to start eldar then... i would get the basics something you can be safe with

If you like Rangers, I have good news for you. It is reputed that Illic Nightbringer, a new character, is actually a Ranger HQ choice.

I'd say go for it; but make sure you ask if the rule for the "ticket" is for the purchase to be done at the same time or if you can buy the Rangers now and Illic when he comes out.

True, however. If over the three months the army gets to a reasonable size I can buy Illic anyway, thank-you for your input though.
