Heya,

I've been told to look infinity up, so I've watched the fluff intro vids, read the rules, watched a game on youtube and I'm convinced.
The models look awesome, and that's the main reason why I'd collect these minis.

I've looked at the factions and I really like the story behind Ariadna and Haqqislam,
The starter packs are apparently not really needed, and perhaps you guys will help me find an easy list to learn the rules with?

Is the mirage-5 team anything you'd think I could pick up?

And for Haqqislam I quite like most sniper models, especially the Touareg one.
For a 150 pts (I think that'd be good for me to learn the game?) I can't field the sniper touareg with the starter pack, which also already has a sniper model, so I also don't know if that's good =)

First of all let me stress I've only played eight or nine games so far.
Having said that, I've seen most of this stuff on the other side of the table and it can be quite annoying. Others will jump in and improve on this, but I'm confident this is a decent start:
Haqqislam | 8 models

Tuareg Sniper (35|0.5)
Ghulam Rifle (13|0)
Ghulam Lieutenant (13|0)
Ghulam Doctor (17|0)
Nasmat (3|0)
Janissary HMG (47|2)
Naffatun LFT (10|0)
Muttawi'ah Chain (5|0)
Muttawi'ah Chain (5|0)

Okay, so get the Tuareg sniper and ditch the sniper from the starter for now. nothing wrong with getting the starter - not needed, but as far as I can see it's not bad either. after those two you'll need a muttawi'ah blister and a nasmat blister (might be support pack only now, could get expensive to start but docs/mechanics and their G:servant bots are stuff you just really will want to have sooner rather than later. my first purchase to go with a bunch of proxies at that time, was the PanO equivalent of those bots ).
since the Muttawi'ah are irregulars you can't use their orders for other models but they're plenty of fun for the ten points they cost, and even 6 models isn't really horrible at 150 pts (although it's not really high either).
The idea is generally to just harass your opponent with them until they die, at which point they'll probably have taken something with them or at least harassed your opponent sufficiently to make them worth the 5 pts a pop. Since you want to play the tuareg you could try to use the muttawi'ah to force your opponent into the line of fire of your TO camoed tuareg, for example (this easily earns them their keep).
upgrading one of the ghulam to a doc and giving him a nasmat basically costs 7 pts; for that cost you get a wip 14 doc; even if he just pulls one unconscious model back into play that's already worth it and wip 14 is rather good.
One area in which you're somewhat lacking is regular old heavy firepower; there's just the bs11 regular sniper rifle and bs13 HMG which can really put on the hurt badly; on the other hand, it's only 150 points and you have a sturdy HI as well as a TO sniper.

Some drawbacks here: first of all some might say using irregulars and a TO camo model right from the start could complicate matters during your first games; IMO not an issue. They also say you shouldn't start out playing a sectorial, or at least leave link teams at home for a while and I'm just fine playing link teams in just about all my games so far, as well as a nice big TAG. It's basically your choice: if you want to go all-out and just dive in don't be too concerned about it. If however you want to take it easy, maybe leave that tuareg out for a while (the muttawi'ah aren't half as complex to play but do take a little tact) for example.

Edit oh and yeah, it might not be the cheapest list to buy off the bat. still though, you'll find a use for almost all of it in all likelyhood.

Okay thx

It's just to learn me the rules, so I need to pick up something anyway =) And if I leave the touareg out, I'm back at 113 points, and I think the starter pack is 119 anyway =) So I'll pick that up, but then I know it's not a loss if I would want to add the touareg later on

...Yeah, I figured it might be a bit steep, pricewise

I would pick up the starter pack. I use the models in it in almost every list. The Hunzakut is a very good cheap sniper with camo. After that the new support pack is a good buy along with the Tuareg you want.

I would suggest proxy whatever you want =)

As for Mirage 5, while very good, they cost a lot of points and their rules might be a little hard to handle at first.

So as you will read everywhere : Start at low point costs, not many rules, learn the basics and slowly add rules and points =)

As a rule of thumb you want at least 8 orders in one battle group. You can probably reach that if you drop the Janissary for a medium trooper and some more LI. It's good to remember that one of their strongest assets is their strong Light Infantry Models.

A Janissary, while nice and super useful, can have be replaced by cheaper models depending on playstyle.
