I have mixed feelings on them, whilst plastic wraiths are a blessing (with CC options to boot) the dire avengers are exactly the same just re-boxed in smaller numbers and sold for more.
Also the new wraight knight is flipping massive and I think it's excessively large for game play purposes it's bordering on a Titan.
Also technically there are only 6 new models. 2 of which are generic HQs then you've got the compulsory flyer.
I think I would have preferred more redone aspect warriors but that's just me.
What are your thoughts?

Highly impressed, it's just that the DA price rise leaves a sour taste. They have probably my second favourite flyer (after the Ork one) and the plastic Wraithguard look very good (OK, regarding the CC variant the axes don't look very Eldar to me but the swords more than make up for that).

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics. |

I don't understand why any marine sized 25mm models, should be £30 for 5.
I also don't understand why the limited edition rulebook is twice the price, but it's actually -exactly- the same as the normal rulebook. At least the others had different cover art, this one is identical adise from a plastic sleeve, and a peice of paper saying you are one of 2000 people in the world to have paid £30 for this plastic sleeve.

As with a lot of other people, I can appreciate the aesthetic appeal of a lot of the new models (the Wraithguard, as mentioned, are stunning), but the fact that it seems to be the line which has suffered most from GW's new release policy leaves me a little cold. Given a little more time and thought this really could have been something special, and I was getting ready to add a few Eldar models to my collection, but it's been another case of giant beastie, flyer, jack up the prices, done. It's pretty disappointing overall.

I was hoping for plastic multikit Aspects and new jetbikes. Not that I collect them, I just thought it would have been the logical move, and the only way I'd see some other aspects fielded against me. I love the Wraithguard and Wraithknight though. Fantastic kits, and the Wraithguard are disturbingly cheap for GW kits. I was expecting them two brackets up. Because people pay it. The pace their LE books sell out is proof that there's at least some demand. There's really no reason for LE versions of anything outside of 'because we can, and people will pay for it'.

Downloaded the preview of the Codex on iPad. Not as telling as the High Elf book, but it does have some weapon stats:
Shuriken Catapult 12" S4 AP5 Assault 2, Bladestorm
Shuriken Cannon 24" S6 AP5 Assault 3, Bladestorm
Bladestorm: When a weapon with this special rule rolls a 6 To Wound, the target is wounded automatically and the Wound is resolved at AP2.
This looks really promising making Guardians and Dire Avengers rather deadly.

Repacking Dire Avengers into boxes of 5 models can become a great deal for GW since almost every Eldar army will now field Avengers.

I like the new Wraithguard. ^^ Wraithguard were some of the nicest looking Eldar models from my perspective, and now they've gone and made them plastic! : D
Also, why is the Spiritseer giving the devil's horns or whatever for rocking out to metal or whatever it is?

The blade storm rule looks exactly the same as rending. I don't understand the need to replace a USR with another rule. Just seems overly convoluted.

DA can pick up cannons? At the moment, cannons are only found on jetbikes and vehicles, and it seems a bit odd giving a light anti tank weapon to the general anti infantry aspect. For reference, DA are currently armed with catapults that have a bit extra range, so a more likely profile would be the new catapult one with either a buffed range or a rule on the unit that buffs the range.

Oh that's true, I didn't notice that. I suppose there's a good reason for that, no need to homogenise all troops to the same level. However it still smells of poor design...

Do the autowounds ignore armor saves? Because that would make bladestorm weapons just plain mean against MCs and MEQs.

Going to buy the new farseer model and added it to my inquisitorial warband. In fact, I'm going to add a few warlock style models as well for counts as Sanctioned Psykers. I always liked the look of the HQs for eldar though. I think the Wraithknight is ugly as piss. On par with the Dreadknight in terms of biggest turn off in 40k.
Maybe it's just the way they posed it on the site.

According to what it says in the quoted rule in this thread, "the wound is resolved at AP 2."
So, yes, but not because it's an auto-wound on a 6. Rolling a 6 to wound basically just lets it wound things its strength couldn't ordinarily wound.

So yeah, that can chop up MCs pretty quick.

Excluding the Bladestorm those are the exact stats of the old SCannon.
For this weapon the Bladestorm is not that significant. For guided unit of 10 avengers with doom? Well, that's another story.

I'm reserving my feelings for the overall codex release. But the models and prices for eldar in general are not going down despite going to finecast/plastic makes them one of the more expensive armies to collect (and I collect orks!) Paying full price for half a box of what you need is a bit rediculous.

I had the knee-jerk reaction of "No plasic Aspects, bah!", but after seeing better pics, I think I like all of the new models. Even seems like it will make the all-ghost Iyanden army viable, which is something that I've wanted to do since 3rd edition. Not only did they get new options with the knight and flyer, wraithguard are like half the price that they used to be! 5 for $50 is exactly what I had hoped for, expected them to either be 3 for $50, or 5 for $75.

Personally, I'm psyched that Eldar are getting some serious firepower buffs, recently it feels like I go to the effort of deploying and manoeuvring so I can drop my dudes off close.. only for them to basically be sneezing at the enemy for all the damage they do.
Pseudo-rending on Catapults? About time! Anti-horde shooting and CC abilities on wraithguard, AND they're now a cheap(er) plastic kit!? YES PLEASE. A new monster unit that can throw down enough AP2 to kill 10 terminators a turn? A flyer with 4 BS5 lascannons?
The list of awesomeness goes on.
Personally, I'm not bummed about the lack of plastic aspects.. I think it was an unrealistic expectation, as they would be releasing a kit that not only had limited potential sales (most players have a fair few aspect squads already), that players don't field many of (niche unit), and that have substantial acceptable 2nd hand models from a 20yr period. Not to mention on models that in some cases only had their 3rd resculpt only a few years ago.
Now no re sculpted jetbikes? Thats kinda crappy, least they dropped the price.
(did anyone else notice btw that the bikes used for the battlerep in WD had guardian helmets? even the WD staff hate them apparently)
