So I got another order of scale cloaks and I'm not sure that I'm completely happy with how the current ones came out;

Here are a few examples of my cloaks, I tried a simple black primer followed by whatever color the cloak is, then a wash. Wondering if there is a better way to do it.

I'm attaching a few examples of how the cloaks look.

I'm hoping I can make them pop a bit more, going to try airbrushing and blending some colors for my next attempt but any suggestions are really appreciated.

Well there are many ways to get them to look more interesting.
You could try to add a color transition. For example add a ransition towards orange or a lighter red so that the lighter color is around the spine thingy.

Also you could rehighlight the cloak after washing with either a light drybrush or an actuall edge highlighting on the scales. This would get them more structure after the wash and done correctly it can probably give the cloak a somewhat leathery shine. (Don't ask me how to archive that, i'm not that good at painting )

Or you could try to paint a pattern of different colored scales into the cloak. You could use reptiles and snakes as reference for that.

A light drybrush would pick out the highlights and shouldn't leave too dusty a look.

Thanks for all the suggestions;

tried with airbrushing translucent paints. I think I just need to find some "better" color combinations.

Overall I'm pretty happy with how this one looks in person.
