Are you guys doing any comp or FAQ?
I am just kinda interested as 3rd edition could be busted wide open with breaking the rules like the unassaultable unit and funhouse mirror formations which make models unshootable.
Never mind the 60 Model Ork HQ unit (who then becomes unshootable by intermingling with the 2 troops)

Right now I am pulling together all the FAQs and Erratas I can find for 3rd edition for the store. Pretty much from what I understand that if it was legal it can be played.

God, I remember how sick the ork Speed freek codex was... Burnas everywhere, 1 turn assaults, Choppas...
Or feral ork codex Nobz with burnas with a 12" assault.
Wish I was closer, It might be fun to 3rd edition again!

It is going to be a blast. I am even putting together an army that is the one I use to play. Again if a list was published in a codex or WD it is legal to play.

God this is so much win. I live in Canada and I'm seriously debating flying down, lol.
3rd was and still is my favourite edition. So less complicated and simpler army lists. No damn flyers or every army having a building sized robot/creature/mech of some sort!

I was out of 40k for good but this is too good to pass up. So I have recreated my 3rd edition Space Marines. Taken the retro feel to the point of picking up MK I Rhinos, Preds and a Razorback. They are smaller and screwing myself over for LOS block but it wouldn't be 3rd withou MK I tanks.

For those that are thinking about going I am slowly getting all the 3rd edition books that the store doesn't already own. We even have a copy of the chapter approved with the original Necrons before their own book came out. Just get ahold of the store or PM me on what resource you need and we will do everything we can to have it.

If you are in the area stop by the store or call and talk to Scott. He is one of the owners of the store and can give you more information. I think I will see if we can get a pre-reg for the tournament.
Also, I will have a full list of the 3rd Edition dexes the store and I have which anyone can use to build their list. The list will be updated regularly as we get ahold of them.

There were so many good lists back then but none were unbeatable.
So far four people have alreay signed up for the tournament. We have others reading the rulebook and deciding what to play. Best thing is that while they are out there, 3rd edition tournament army internet uber lists are harder and harder to find. So it will be a much more even playing field.
Armies so far confirmed to be there:
Dark Angels
Eldar
Speed Freak Orks
Tyranids
Possible house rule #1: This was a rule from the FLGS in Springlake, NC outside of Ft Bragg. An IG or an Ork player with a Bassie can fire indirectly on another table upon request from that other player since the Earthshaker Cannon had a guess max range of 270". It could only be done on the IG or Ork players turn. Any victory points from destroyed units or vehicles are not counted for any players.

Ahhh the days When men were MEN... And Geeks got nervous....
A time when you can really customize your army,... your commanders..... When Fluff was competitive because of the freedom of customization through their war gear selection.
When the blood angel rhino rush roam the firelds....
When Nids were.... frightening....
When the Crystal Targeting Matrix for Eldar was damned near borken.....
When Dark Eldar were just plain sadistic.....
When you can make a Badass Dark Angel Scout army and load the fields with Autocannons
When Aunshi and the original Tau codex were hard to beat to the dismay of the corporation.
When the Emperor's Champion Could be in any Space marine Army.
When Orks were to be feared.
When you can make an army to defeat all those above in Tournament play.... My Main Army.... The Emperor's Children Daemon Bomb. A time to crush the hope of many under the heel of my iron shod boots....
Good times.... good times....
By the way I still have all of those armies posted above as well. I would not sell them as they all gave me so much fun to game with.
Good luck with your tournament and please tell us how it goes!
-Adam.

This is an incredibly knuckleheaded idea for a tournament. So some guy shows up with a friend and helps his friend out during a tournament match, seriously? Even if you dont count VP it is still degrading the victim's army.

It didn't happen very often because people forgot about it. I use to run 3 bassies in my IG army but was only asked twice. Plus guessing at that range was hard. We will see. I dont think many house rules will come into the tournament.

Um, you didn't play Chaos, I take it? The 3.5 codex remains one of the most complicated army lists GW ever produced, simply for the number of options it included (plus the various Chapter Approved variants).
One word: Siren.
While we're on the subject, though, what about the TAR?

No houserules for the tournament. It will only be right out of the main rulebook and any offical sources
When it comes down to TAR I think we are going to leave that alone and stick with the main rules book of the assault rules. Not many people have access to the TAR rules and it would cause confusion with people relearning 3rd for the tournament. We are thinking about a 4th Edition Tournament later on down the line and TAR was basicly those rules in a nutshell.

Are you guys playing with the Chapter Approved books? IE- Access Points and Fire Points for vehicles and such?
I loved playing my Space Wolves in 3rd edition... I could use a Leeman Russ in my list, my Venerable Dreadnought was an HQ choice, Wolf Tooth necklaces for my Wolf Guard...
Kansas City is a long way to travel to play some 40k, but man that would be awesome...

A quick update. Just reconfirmed with the owners of the store the date/time/details and everything is good. It never hurts to always double check. Just make sure you bring several copies of your army list to share. Everything is fair game list wise as long as it was an offical GW army list i.e. Codex, minidex, WD, etc... As long as it is a legal list there is no banned lists. Just no vehicle design rules (VDR). Those are beyond crazy and too difficult to keep track of. Automatically Appended Next Post: Here is the list I am running. It is a 1500 Point Space Marine list I am running as a counts as Dark Angels since I don't like the stubborn rules (there is times when you want to back up and double tap): HQ~ Chaplain w/Art Armor (20), Power Fist (25), Term Honors (15) and Frags (1) 131 Points Command Squad x 5 w/ 2 Flamers (6) and Frags (5) in a Rhino (50) and Smoke Launchers (3) 154 Points Elite~ Dreadnought w/ T/L LasCannon, Missile Launcer (10) and a Search Light (1) 136 Points Troops~ Tact Squad 1 x 5 w/ Melta (10) and a Rhino (50) and a Search Light (1) 136 Points Tact Squad 2 x 5 w/ Melta (10) and a Rhino (50) and a Search Light (1) 136 Points Tact Squad 3 x 5 w/ Plasma Gun (6) and a Las Cannon (15) 96 points Tact Squad 4 x 5 w/ Plasma Gun (6), Las Cannon (15) and a Razorback (70) with Las T/L Plasma (15) 181 points Scout Squad 1 x 5 with all Sniper Rifles (25) 90 points Scout Squad 2 x 5 with all Sniper Rifles (25) 90 points Fast Attack~ NONE Heavy Support~ Preditor Annihilator with T/L LasCannons and 2 Las Cannons (25) 145 points Preditor Annihilator with T/L LasCannons and 2 Heavy Bolters (10) 130 points Whirlwind 75 Points Total Points: 1500 36 Infantry minis 8 minis with armour value 8 LasCannons 1 Missile Launcher 3 Plasma Guns 2 Meltaguns 2 Flamers 1 Powerfist 10 Sniper Rifles 1 Indirect Fire Ordance This is what I played from 1998 to the start of 4th edition with my Ultramarines and tried it out a couple months ago against a 3rd edition Nid army and cleared the board by 5th turn.
