Painlord Titan Princeps of Slaanesh
|
So a new league has started at one of my local gaming clubs, and I've decided to run my chaos space marines, with a few restrictions:
1) Lucius the Eternal must be the warlord
2) a Terminator bodyguard will accompany lucius (I never use my terminators)
3) No heldrakes can be used [basically I feel like they have to be present to be competitive, so I'm going without them. Plus it just gets boring and my opponents hate them]
Day 1 - 750
game 1, vs necrons:
I took Lucius, a squad of cultists, a squad of noisemarines with 2 blastmasters and fnp banner, an aegis defense line and a squad of four terminators.
He was putting similar restrictions on himself, using no annihilation barges or chronometrons. He took a ghost arc with 5 warriors, a big squad of warriors, a lord, a C'tan, and....that's it.
I got the infiltrate warlord trait and infiltrated Lucius with terminators behind him.
I'll make this short: I got tabled very quickly. I did one wound to the C'tan, which he regenerated. Terminators died to overwatch when charging the ghost arc.
In the end, I killed no models and did no wounds to the C'tan.
Game 2, also against necrons
We started at the same time as the table next to us, but we finished in about 30 minutes. We decided to play another game.
Exact same thing happened, right down to terminators dying to overwatch from the barge's occupants. Pretty terrible.
Game 3, vs Space Wolves
Two grey hunter squads with 2x melta, 2x plasma. Rune priest with lightning, razorback, rhino, squad of long fangs.
He approaches too close with his rhino, and mistakenly fires his missiles at my terminators. He does get lucky and kill one, but then the other three hop the aegis, pop his rhino with a combi-melta, and charge the occupants......
and die to overwatch fire.
So instead of wiping them out and taking mid-field, I just threw away my hard-hitting assault unit. The rest of the game went downhill and I got tabled.
Game 4, vs tyranids
I changed my list. Terminators OUT. Small cultist squad OUT, aegis defense line OUT.
Lucius, two squads of 5 noisemarines with 3x sonic blaster and blastmaster each, a squad of 5 havocs with 4 autocannons and a combi-plasmagun, and a squad of 6 Slaanesh bikers with two plasmaguns and a combi-plasma.
He had a flyrant, a spore with 15 devourer gaunts, a tervigon and.....oh, and like 20 gargoyles.
Things looked bad at first as I couldn't seem to drop his hive tyrant. Some lucky shooting later on brought it down.
Speaking of lucky shooting, the devourer gaunts managed to wipe out an entire noisemarine squad the turn they landed.
The other noisemarine squad opened fire with their cover-ignoring weapons.....and killed two. Luckily they failed pinning and went to ground.
With the hive tyrant threat neutralized, Lucius decided to charge the gargoyles by himself. He took a wound to overwatch, killed several on the way in, and they did two wounds in return....
....for which he promptly failed both saves for and died a humiliating death instead of running them all down and securing the right flank.
The bikes had already been killed by the hive tyrant and try as I might I couldn't get those devourer gaunts killed. My havocs lost two models and ran off the board and my noisemarines died to a man.
Day 1 summary: 4 tabling losses, no wins.
So yeah.... not a good start!
Week 2, game 1:
My luck has to be better this week! I fought some eldar. Things were going great! Played the field, used terrain....
Lucius rolled 3" for a charge that was 4" away, took a wound to overwatch for his trouble and was murdered the following turn.
A squad of noisemarines shot at a squad of ranges for 3 turns just to kill them off of an objective and my deployment zone.
My bikes took two casualties turn 1 and fled off the board.
Tabled.
Packed up and went home - obviously my dice still weren't with the program.
Week 3, Game 1:
Played against some space wolves! I sat back to pepper his razorback and rhinos as he approached me. I had some bad rolls, but in the end I ground him down. Pretty close game actually, but a victory for me. Lucius managed to roll another 3" for charge distance at some marines 4" away, costing him the charge. He got killed by shooting after that.
But a victory nonetheless! Lucius restored himself in the gunner of the razorback crew after the battle and we prepared for the next week.
Week 4, Game 1:
1000 points now, I tried something different:
Lucius, two squads of noisemarines, Keeper of Secrets, 10 daemonettes, Slaanesh daemon prince.
He took a ghost arc with 10 warriors, 10 immortals, a night scythe with 5 warriors, a destroyer lord and 5 archoteck wraiths or whatever the forgeworld unit is called.
Things didn't go too terribly, except my charging, smashing daemon prince managed 1 wound on the wraith-thingies after Lucius failed utterly to kill the necron lord in a challenge. Some daemonettes charged some warriors, killed them down to 3, got charged by immortals, killed half and sent them running, and then got popped by an arcing lightning bolt from the night scythe to die in combat.
Keeper of secrets rolled 4+ fnp on the greater rewards table, but failed all 5 that she had to make to die to a few necron warriors shooting gauss flayers.
It was going well, but in the end it all fell apart. Tabled.
Game 2, vs Dark Eldar
I thought this would go badly, but either way I wanted a different list.
Lucius, 2 squads of noisemarines, 5 slaanesh bikers, 3 helbrutes, autocannon havocs.
He took two squads of wyches with haywire in venoms, a raider with 10 warriors, another 10 warriors on foot, a haemonculus, 8 reavers, the flier and a squad of hellions.
He went first and boosted into my face, bladevaning a noisemarine squad down to 2 models and putting his wych venoms right in my face.
Lucius killed half the reavers with his doomsiren, who then fled. He tried to charge them and they failed to regroup, being sent packing off the board.
Noisemarines and havocs killed hellions down to 1 and it broke and ran, never to return.
Two helbrutes popped both wych venoms. Both failed pinning tests and lost 4/5 of their number.
Well that was a good first turn for me, horrible for him. He moved what he could up a bit, but not much happened.
My bikes came in from reserves, popped his raider, pinning the squad inside.
Noisemarines and helbrutes killed both single wych units.
Turn 3 his flier arrived, dropping missiles but scattering, only killing two noisemarines from the now larger squad. His warriors were pinned and tried to shoot but did nothing.
I charged his warriors with the bikes, wiping them out. Put 2 hull points on the flier with autocannons and sonic blasters and shook it - no more monoscythes! Helbrutes moved up.
He ran for it on his 4th turn.
My 4th, downed the flier, charged his last squad of warriors, chased them off the field.
Ok victory number 2! This guy couldn't pass a morale check to save his life - I know how that feels! And he was a bit too aggressive versus my cover-ignoring army.
Will update next week, week 5!
