G'day all,

I've started an Imperial Guard army a while back, but haven't painted a whole lot of infantry as of yet. Before I paint a ton of Cadians, I'm wondering what alternative models are out there.

I actually really like the "Starship Troopers" aesthetic that Cadians have, which is why I started them, I just hate the cartoonish proportions.

Looking at Mantic's Corporation models, they look mostly alright, but the heads really don't appeal to me, so overall I'd sooner paint the Cadians rather than the Corporation.

Suggestions?

Well there are a ton of 3rd party heads out there as well as 3rd party models that would work as guard.

Cadians work really well for starship troopers imo, though I've never liked their heads. Sorry for the large pic, wanted more detail when trying to sell them.

Yeah, I actually really like the aesthetic of the Cadians, I just really dislike the proportions. They are built like bobble-headed-space-marines more than regular men (very wide, large heads/arms). I actually already started painting Cadians, I'm just looking for alternatives before I paint so many that I'm committed to them (excuse the pathetic attempt at a snow base, this was just a proof of concept to see how it'd look ).

aren't there ACTUAL starship trooper models in 28mm?

I also believe there's arachnids.

There once where starship trooper minis but they are oop now. Probably hard to get them now. But maybe on ebay or so ...

Yeah I agree, the proportions are definitely off but I love the design (and fluff ;p). Looking at this image, Cadians are definitely wearing starship trooper style armour. Your paintjob is great, but doesn't match the colourscheme I tend to think of starship troopers as having - grey armour and purple fatigues. Or is that just one style of starship troopers colours?

No. The Mongoose minis were quite a bit taller.

And being long OOP doesn't help their availability...

Sorry I didn't mean I want to 100% emulate Starship Troopers, I just meant a similar aesthetic. When I painted mine I was half thinking about Starship Troopers, half thinking about allies for my Space Wolves and half thinking about what would good colours for "generic meat for the grinder".

Ahh gotcha hehe. Not interested in Eisenkern Stormtroopers? By far the best not-IG imo. Or maybe the upcoming Raging Heroes female IG kickstarter that's starting in a couple days?

I like Mantic's models all except the head. I'm thinking I'll just end up doing GW's models, there are some good alternatives out there, but nothing with the aesthetic I'm looking to have.

I'm basically looking for properly proportioned Cadians Ah well.
