Subject: Video Battle Report: 6th edition Eldar vs. Chaos Space Marines 1750pts
The new 6th edition Eldar vs. Chaos Space Marines in this fun battle report! Both armies are painted on a nice looking table to give you an idea of how the new book plays!
Excellent preview of the new eldars. I can see you've got some ring-rust. Doing Look-Out-Sirs for your farseer! If you had failed those 2 saves, your guardian jetbikes would have dropped the relic and you would have lost! But if you lost your Warlord, it would have been a tie at worst.
Just a few questions/comments:
1) why do you think that Laser Lock doesn't work with Duel Scatter Lasers? In the rule, the only mention of Scatter Laser with a different weapon is the sentence saying that in these cases, fire the weapons with the Laser Lock rule fire first.
2) as Doom in a Malidatiion, it doesn't work on flyers as you don't roll to hit so you can't target the Helldrake
3) are you able to mix and match your psychic powers when choosing? I noticed you used Fate and Divination for your Farseer... Great if you can, but I always assumed it was all or nothing...

No, I just sound funny. People here ask me where I'm from often.

I am rusty, no doubt! I played like crap, threw away some of my best units, but oh well. It was a learning game!
@Mike
1.) The book says it must be another weapon for the scatter laser to twin link, all sactter lasers on the same model fire simultaneously.
2.) Maledictions do work on flyers.
3.) Yes you can mix and match powers, you go through them one at a time.
Glad you liked the report.
@Sagan
Yes you are right, my opponent doesn't play chaos and just made a mistake. We let it ride as I didn't notice it till he charged and by then it was too late. It was no big deal really, but it is illegal technically.
Excellent report Reece the new Eldar are looking good! Id have to agree that even one more heldrake would have given you tons of more problems or if that heldrake could have survived a bit longer. Will be looking forward to seeing your future reports with some of the new units.

1) Ok, I understand it now
2 & 3) You sir have made my day... I know you like Scatter Lasers, but I wonder if a squadron or 2 of War Walkers on Bright Lance duty could be enough of a deterrent with Guide/Presidence and Doom...

I like the Scatter Lasers because they obliterate infantry like nobodies business, and MCs and light tanks, etc. I think one of each is a good mix, personally. All B.Lances is good, no doubt, but I always aim to write lists that can take all comers as best I can.
Hey Reece great showing man, don't forget to smash with the WL in order to kill those oblits! Also I think you need to try some D-canons and warp spiders, WS are so insanely fast now! 6+2d6 move then shoot then battletrance 6+2d6 jetpack move.... it's almost stupid how fast thgey are AND their guns get stronger against vehicles! I wouldn't be surprised if you could get them behind a HD to pop its arse
Can the WS Battle Focus/Jet Pack move? I thought it was only a run move, but then, as Jet packs they can jet pack move anyway.
And that is actually a really good point, they can just scoot behind the Turkey and pop it in the backside! Have to try that out.
As far as I know they can because they are infantry meaning they can run and the jet pack move is used in the assault phase. That makes them insanely fast unless I am way off. They have always been my favorite aspect so it excites me how much better they are...not that they were not good. In fact all monofilament weapons got amazing I think.
Yeah, no kidding! That is 20 stregnth 7 shots against a vehicle, holy crap! hahaha, with guide, even a flyer is going to get owned by that. If you take the exarch with Spinnert Rifle and Fast shot, that is 3 ap1 shots at BS5 in rapid fire range. Damn, that is really, really good. That is a great all purpose unit that kills infantry, vehicles and can run around contesting objectives last turn, plus they are slippery with hit and run. Nice one!

Nothing special.

Exactly, 10 of these to me is just way more useful then a crimson hunter.

Great battle! Really loved the painting jobs. It was nice to see the new Eldar fielded, I plan on using them starting next weekend (either as a detachment for my DEldar or perhaps their own force), though primarily Wraith-based. Can't wait to see more from you guys!

Haha, very true! I have always had a funny sounding voice since I was a kid.
@Red Corsair
I am on board with that plan, definitely going to try it out. I agree that they are a solid choice. You can just run them naked for 190 too, and not worry about losing the Exarch in an unlucky jump. That is a very reasonable price tag for what you get.
@tanuvein
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. We appreciate the feedback as we are always trying to improve our quality and get better, so the suggestions and such are appreciated.

I don't think that is how it works.
With the Warp Jump Generator (WJG), you have to choose whether to move as a jet pack infantry or make a Warp jump. If you don't choose to move as a jetpack infantry (i.e. if you opt to Warp jump instead), then I don't believe you get to move in the assault phase.
The closest analogy that I can think of is the jump pack. If you choose not to move as jump infantry, then you can re-roll your assault move. It's either one or the other, but not both.
Also, Warp jump is only done in the Movement phase. However, you can opt to Warp jump and then run and shoot via Battle Focus.
I was on the fence before this report about starting up a small eldar detachment. And I think this just convinced me. The warp spider exarch is the reason I got into 40k and battle focus seems like great fun. Add to that some of the fun dark eldar combos you can pull and I'm sold.
Also I guess GW weren't lying when they said tau would be the shootists and eldar the most mobile armies to come out in a while.

I thought the same thing, however, it says you must choose to be a Jetpack or use the Warp Jump Generator in the movement phase only. After that you revert back to being a Jet Pack Infantry. It doesn't say you stay that way all turn, and only specifies movement in the movement phase.
The way I read it is in the movement phase you either jump like a normal jet pack with no risk or losing a guy, or jump 6+2d6" but risk the loss. Then in every other sub phase of the turn, you act as normal Jet Pack Infantry.

Yeah, I agree! Eldar are great fun to play, just a blast! I really like them.

This is how I read it as well. Using the warp jump doesn't change the unit type and just gives you a riskier but higher reward option in the movement phase. Unless FAQ'd these guys are extremely quick.
Soooooo good, even just as normal Jet Pack infantry, the extra jump distance is just icing on the cake.
Managed to sneak a game in tonight against an ultra aggressive Chaos/Damon army, and they were hands down my all star unit. Every list I write has a unit of 10 (no upgrades, don't want to risk losing the Exarch on a jump) for sure, no questions asked. They were wasting infantry, vehicles, MCs, characters, etc. They add more volume of fire to the War Walkers, too. My opponent said they were target priority number 1 after that game.
The Support Platforms were good, too. Not amazing, but good. Guide helps a lot, but for the price they were really great for character sniping and taking out Cultists in the back field.
Tried Karandras with Scorps too, they are much improved. Just have to watch out for AP2.
Eldar are the shizz, once AA is reliably addressed, these guys are going to kick all kinds of ass.
Wow glad to hear the glowing review! I new on paper they looked amazing but you never know until they get the acid test so thanks man!
I also had a new idea, looking back at my DE grot bomb i am wondering if Lady malice, urien or archon plus Karandras would work for redeployment infiltration. She doesn't have the restrictions that eldrads redeploy has so I am wondering if this would work to infiltrate the whole bomb 18 away from your opponent after you have deployed initially attaching all said characters...hmmmmm
Awesome report. My two test games so far went rather good as well with my footdar. I lost the second game by 3pts, but I think that had a lot to do with: Getting seized on, not getting any usable powers that worked with my units, and ring rust. The first game I really put the hurt on an IG army. My wraith wall supporting conceal, protect spirit seer +fortune farseer was just an absolute ball buster unit. I didn't lose a single model in that squad the whole game. Regarding Warp Spiders...oh yes...they kick all sorts of ass...which is great since they are my favorite aspect. In both games they really shot the piss out of stuff. All in all, I'm digging the codex and I'll gladly trade the defense we had for the uber offense we got. I can't wait until Saturday to try out some more stuff in games.

Secondly, cool battle report. I think using your old list fit in the new codex to see how it works now was a great idea. I made the same mistake as you did with the Scatterlasr War Walkers. However, that is why I now have Scatterlaser/Starcannons on them. Same range and strength, so their role mostly stays the same. Plus, they can scare 2+ armor. I didn't know War Walkers had Battle Focus. I need to review the codex some more as that is some crazy Tau tactics being played out.
Sadly, my Harlies are in my case and I'm not sure they are coming out any time soon, unless they are DE Harlies (I don't think they FAQ'ed them yet). Casting on LD9, while good still seems very dicey and add that you can't get Runes of Witnessing really stinks.
Regarding Runes of Witnessing, I think that may become a mandatory piece of kit for my Farseers. I played Eldrad in a couple of games and I failed 4 tests in 2 games! My Eldar feel so less than superior in the psychic phase.
Thanks for the report. I've learned Hellturkeys still suck and that Eldar can still throw out some ridiculous amounts of shooting.
No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I think that the new codex has - as you've said - increased the eldar offence at the expense of their defence. In this game it would've been interesting to see a more forceful move from the Eldar.
With the old codex, Eldar jetbikes just scooted around, not killing much at all. It would've been great to see some jetbikes attacking the oblits in the backfield with some pseudo-rends. Even if it just tied them up, that alone would've been enough... since the Oblits took down the Wraithlord and were threatening the midfield (possibly turning the game if it went another turn). I'm not sure if you had them equipped with pseudo-rends...
I'm excited to see people using more destructive Eldar strategies, with jetbikes that can actually kill stuff!

Awesome report! Glad to hear you tried out Karandras I'm really looking forward to him but freaking powerfist at initiative 7 that gives an extra attack sounds epic on paper.
