I'm stripping a Forge World model with Dettol - how long should I leave it in?

Atleast 12 hours, maybe 24 is best. Depending on how thick the paint is it might take multiple goes.

On a side note I used to use dettol, and have been converted to fairy powerspray, much faster, easier, cleaner, less smelly etc

Also wear gloves pure dettol does bad things to your hands.

Like any stripping technique it can vary a bit. From my experience with dettol you should see the paint start to move after about 15 minutes. Please note for best results with dettol I've found that its best to scrub the paint off with a hard toothbrush while it is submerged; Wear rubber gloves and watch out for splashes to your eyes. Most important;make sue that where you are doing it is well ventilated.

I can tell you from first hand experience that you can leave it as long as you like. I stumbled upon a container full of detol and minis I was stripping MONTHS ago last weekend. No damage to them what so ever and the paint just fell off when I run the mini under running water!

Apart from the godawful smell they will be no doubt be infused with forevermore?

Also running under the tap is not always recommended with dettol as it more often than not turns the paint into horrible gunk that is even harder to remove.

That's a good point, from my most recent experience getting water in your dettol pot will give you allot of problems. It reduces the stripping effect and turns paint that has come of gummy.

Gloves are recommended or you will get the driest of dry hands.

You can leave resin in dettol for as long as you like but the paint should be done for in a few hours.

I find its mor or less comes off in a sheet so jut put the price on some kitchen towel (on a board or matt cos you done want your table smelling of dettol forever ) then hook a loose bit with a tooth brush and deposit it on the kitchen roll. Then a final scrub for the small bits and its ready for a wash in some soapy water.

use a second jar of dettol to rinse them, scrub with a brush, rinse again. repeat until your happy. Finish off with a rinse with water as by then there is no paint to become gunk

To remove the smell I left mine in a mix of water and washing up liquid. Not 100% but water absorbs smells, so can only help

In terms of lengths, anything over a couple hours will lossen the paint, 24 hours + will have it falling off. I usually leave em in for about 4 hours (im impatient and just go back to cleaning them in rotations)
