If this is as good as the very few reviews currently up claim it to be, this could be the zombie game I've wanted to play for years.Got it downloading (Xbox 360 version) as I type...anybody else going to be getting this one?

I saw it but for some reason it just didn't appeal to me. I think it's because I feel like its not as grand as it could be with a bigger budget.

But yeah, tell us how it plays and if its worth getting or not

Yea, I got the demo downloading at the moment ... my friends say it is quite good sort of day-z-esque.

Looks similar top DayZ, maybe not quite as in depth when it comes to things like catching diseases, eating a proper diet (looks like though you have to find food the type of food and so forth doesn't matter). However, I'm still in the tutorial part of the game so I could turn out to be wrong.

I just got the gun on the game and the gun/shooting mechanics seem quite good.

I like the looks of it, Started the download. I'll chime in once I've seen it

EDIT: Update, I've played through the whole demo, Loved it, Graphics are about where I expect from a 20 dollar game. It is VERY MUCH open. The influence system is well done, makes sure your pulling your share of the load. You want those painkillers? You damn well better have earned them. Great fun, combats not top notch but it is fun. Your given a decent ability to stealth as well. Only problems I noticed were the same as IGN brought up. Clipping errors. I saw a few Zeds phase through a cliff. But for the actual content I can ignore that. Looks like the full game will be great. I'm going to grab so MS points on Saturday, so I'll chime in weather the full game stays the course or not.

I'm loving this game. 20 bucks well spent.

Hopefully this is sucessful enough to make a sequel with even more features and such.

Been playing it all of today. Goddamn, it is not as forgiving as it first seems! Two of my characters got killed trying to help some rednecks, so I'm starting again.

Superb game, though. Really love the looting/scavenging aspect of it, and the mechanic where you can play as different survivors is nice too.

My only real problem with the game is that nobody else does anything other than get lost.

It would be nice to be able to tell another survivor "Go find x, y, or z"

One thing I've noticed is that this game's hectic as feth. There's always about five missions on the go! Not that it's a bad thing, though. The pressure suits the scenario quite well. And things are certainly never dull.

Alao, liking the characterisation of the judge and her faction. She comes off as quite reasonable on the surface, but you can easily see that she's not really all that reasonable if you pay attention.

I like the ideas and the price but I wish people would do games about something other than zombies.

This game has done them in a fairly new way, though. Big open world (but not as unforgiving as Day Z et. al.) and a focus on base building. Popular antagonists, sure, but an interesting use of them.

Besides, some of us will never be tired of zombies.

Ol' Blighty

I generally don't like zombies- I can think of two zombie films that I like (shaun of the dead and zombieland), and I don't like fighting them because I just don't like games in which you're destined to lose.

But I tried state of decay on the urgings of my friends, and it's great.
Realistic, (not "I have a million bullets and can take on 30 at once no problem"), but not overly so (like "oh no, I got scratched, I'm infected!").
Open world with a large map (but not ridiculously so) makes it far more interesting than just walking around the same area or on a linear series of places, with an actual storyline, but it doesn't make the characters invincible to fulfill that story- characters die, and the story just continues without them. Nice base customisation and character relations.
I love how when you play you have to constantly be mindful of food/health status, ammo consumption and risk of attracting more with gunfire or window smashing, and that fighting often isn't the best option.

If I had to compare it to anything else, I'd say imagine GTA with zombies, crossed with day-z.
two minor moans- tiny cars should not be able to steamroll 15 zombies at 30mph easily while a 4x4 going at 70mph can't drive over a single zombie who happens to be fat.
some mechanics get a bit repetitive (searching/looting houses, the character morale-fixing missions etc.)

Ohoho, something hilariously awful happened to me earlier.

- New mission: Brock is feeling depressed
- Mission basically entails taking Brock out to clear out an infestation while talking to him to make him feel better
- Take him over to the infestation in a small store, we clear it out while my character acts as his therapist
- Brock says that he is feeling better and is no longer depressed
- Suddenly: HORDE ALTERTED
- Zombies pile into the store, Brock is quickly killed

Goddammit.

Anyway, one small gripe I have is that the finishing moves don't seem to activate reliably. Though that may just be that you need to hold down Y+LB rather than just tapping.

Eventually you get to a point (or at least I did, maybe I got lucky) that I was doing so many other things to boost Morale I was able to largely Ignore their repetitive damn problems. For Example. I cannot leave the base without Ed becoming terminally depressed. I told him to beat feet and hit the road. He was Killing Morale

my Ed was my first casualty, about four/five days in :(
he went down fighting though. It's just there's only so much one man can do against a horde with no cover and no stamina.

Yeah Ive been there, Halfway through a second horde (Damn Gunshots) and I run out of stamina, I think I could have made it into a house if it hadn't been for that Feral...

yeah, Maya's been my only other casualty, which was to a feral... damned thing wouldn't get off my face long enough for me to get out some painkillers...

Feral's are the one thing I truly fear. There can be two hoards coming at me and I will still put an entire clip into a Feral instead of them. Things are incredibly powerful.

It is an absolutely brilliant game. I thought we were burnt out on zombie games and this dev comes along with a really original concept. it is a little buggy and graphically it could be better but it's definitely worth playing.

It's the juggernauts (the fat ones) I'm terrified of. Will not fight one unless there's a nearby car I can run it over with. Damn things are terrifying.

Also, is anybody else actually using guns? I'm pretty much never using them except as a last resort in fights that I'm losing.

yeah, I never use them unless I get swarmed. Plus, I make sure I have silencers.
note: burst-firing the assault rifle, aiming at the head, is far better than spraying full-auto at a horde (unless you're point-blank, of course).

There's a very steady flow of story missions to keep things interesting. But yeah, you'll often have the same few sidequests going on too. Though they are optional, and I like the hectic element that it adds. There's certainly never a dull moment.

I love the game, personally. I wish that there were more building materials, or at least that each outpost didn't require so many to upkeep per day...also Hoping that they take out the persistent world while you're not playing. I feel like it only adds a degree of tediousness to the game
