I'm a daemon player who's revisiting Fateweaver as an HQ. One of his flaws was that he's so expensive with only T5 and no eternal warrior. However, he's not a character you'd ever want to get into close combat, so in actual fact this is only really a major flaw if there are ranged weapons that can ID him, and I'm struggling to think of any. I know the Tau used to have a st 10 railgun, but as far as I know it's not in the new codex. The IG have one or two, but I think they're pretty rare to see on the table, and I think all blast weapons so can't target a FMC unless he's grounded. Does any other army have ranged weapons or powers that are S10 or instant death?

I suppose he could be enfeebled and ID'd with s8/9, but I consider that an acceptable risk.

The loss of the Tau railgun and Eldars table wide runes of warding seems to mean Fateweaver has become better and I'm much more inclined to run him.

Tau does still have S10 railguns on hammerheads but they don't seem very popular at the moment. And eldar wraithcannons are S10 as well so a single gounding test and you can be stuck in front of five S10 shots. But more than those two sources I can't think of anything threatening Fateweaver with instant death. However with only T5 and 4++ he is quite susceptible to small arms fire.

My armies:
vior'la sept 12k
Erik Morkai's great company 6k
dark mechanicus, the dearth of hope, 8k
rothwyr morwan's company 1,5k
Adeptus custodes 2k
AoS, The forgotten order, SE, 3k

Keep an eye out for Tachyon Arrows from Necron Overlords. Destroyer Lords in particular, as they are BS5 and with preferred enemy they will re-roll that to hit.

If youre grounded you'd have to watch out for Vindicators. Especially BA ones that can move 12" and still fire their demolisher.

Yeah this is my thought too. The C'tan suffer from the same issue of only having a 4+/4++ but they are T7 so much more resilient to small arms. Keep Fatey in the air as much as you can to mitigate this.

Thanks for letting me know about Tau - I thought they'd lost them completely, was it just from their suits then?

I should have realised that Necrons would have something nasty. What's the range on that?

Small arms fire can always be a bit of an issue for FMCs. I'm planning on running him with the Grimoir combination so he should be pretty survivable with any luck. I think there's just something more frustrating in having him one shotted even if it makes no real practical difference!

Demolisher cannons, manticores, medusa siege cannon, bastion breacher shells for medusas, deathstrike missiles and beast hunter shells for ABG vanquishers.

All strength ten or ID, ranged str10 is one thing that Guard do well. The beast hunter shells are only str8, but have the ID special rule.

Tau with their Hammerhead rail guns

Marines of all types with the Vindicators

Guard with the Demolishers

Eldar with the Wraithcannons, Heavy Wraithcannons and D Cannons (which also inflict ID on any 6 to wound)

Necrons with the Tachyon Arrow and Death Ray (I think that is S10 anyway)

Tyranids with the Rupture Cannon

Orks potentially with the Zzap Gun

That is all the ranged strength 10 weapons I can think of, but they are not as uncommon as people think (there are only a few armies like dark eldar and sisters that don't have access to 1 or more of them).

Ork Shokk Attack gun, if your two dice spell 10 with anything but two fives.

two fives means you just teleported into close combat instead.

An 11 or 12 is also lethal. 11 is a s 10 pinpoint shot, and 12 is a 'feth you, you are removed from the game...thanks for playing' shot.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

Certainly more strength 10 stuff out there than I thought, but most of it appears to be blast weapons which at least means Kairos needs to be grounded before they can ID him.

Don't forget that with grimoire buff you've got a rerollable 2++ and while you're flying you're safe against most str 10

D.Lords are BS4. Unless there's a FAQ I'm unaware of.
