So I was playing a game the other day against a daemon horde army and I fared poorly, because my list (which is a TAC list I'm prepping for a tournament) was geared more toward MEQ armies. When I mentioned this to my opponent, he pointed out of the 10 games going in the store, only one had marines, and they were allies. I was wondering if this is typical of the meta these days, or if its just my store. Also, does it make sense to gear TAC lists more towards horde armies these day.

The key to strategy is not to choose a path to victory, but to choose so that all paths lead to a victory.

War is beautiful because it establishes man’s dominion over the subjugated machinery by means of gas masks, terrifying megaphones, flame throwers, and small tanks. War is beautiful because it initiates the dreamt-of metalization of the human body. War is beautiful because it enriches a flowering meadow with the fiery orchids of machine guns. War is beautiful because it combines the gunfire, the cannonades, the cease-fire, the scents, and the stench of putrefaction into a symphony.

It really depends on the local meta, as they can vary wildly. The last two tournaments I've played in had about 50% power armor armies.

You are a lucky, lucky person - typically I've found around 50% of players play Marines of some flavour (Chaos included). Admittedly, the balance has shifted a bit in the last few months what with Tau and now Eldar, and people discovering how much butt Necrons kick. However I don't expect it to last.

Super Ready is right. Assuming C:SM comes out sometime between now and November, there will probably be an increase in MEQs this autumn/winter, and it will be a huge increase if some of the rumors of how the Marine mini-dexes are accurate.

If you've got no anti-horde options, it's not exactly a TAC, is it?

Depends where you are at. I see all armies but SoB here with primarily xenos but the guys i end op playing against are usually a MEQ/TEQ mix. I've actually never even gotten to go against GEQ

At my local, almost every army is either MEQ or GEQ. (MEQ is far more common.)

How common are MEQ armies?

Too damn common

It does make it a bit of a treat to play something else though (IG artillery gunline excluded )

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

guard is usually pretty common these days considering how awesome their codex is.

Ork, ahh I dont know why there arent more of them. Their codex is probably the most resilent 4th edition codex, still going strong after 2 editions. They are a ton of fun to play, and when you go up against an army with no anti horde, but a ton of plasma + meltaguns you laugh.

Last tourney I went to had henchmen GK, Daemons, Tau, Necrons, Guard (with SM allies) and Nids on table 1-3 in the last round. Seems a diverse meta ATM.

Sorry can't disclose.....infiltrating

Their was quite abit at the end of 5th and advent of 6th, with gk, BA, then crons. Then 6th hit and we got 2 more MEQs for new books, but people started experimenting with the new flyer and psyker rules and nids saw an uprise, and allies breathed life into tau, eldar, and guard

Now with these dexes rolling out and Daemons, Tau and Eldar getting great additions they have been dusted off and seeing a huge which is great IMO theirs been far too much meq superiority since 4th ended
