For the longest time I've wanted to get all of the DLC content for Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, having only rented the game before, and even then having to commit the act of PAYING 800 MS points for multiplayer since I didn't own the game, which is heresy in and of itself.

A few weeks ago I found a good deal on Amazon and bought the game, only today I finally decided to download the DLC at long last to find them missing on additional content tab for the game on Xbox Live. Knowing there is also the option to download them in-game I go there to find that the Chaos Unleashed DLC is no longer available and that Dreadnought Assault costs some trillion MS points, which the techie side of me knows is just an error or cheap way of making sure that DLC can not be downloaded either.

So I ask you brother and sister members of Dakka... WHAT HERESY IS THIS?!

I understand fully about THQ going under because of their own ignorance and greed but why could they be allowed to take the DLC content with them, yet still allow multiplayer? When most companies go under they simply drop multiplayer all together, I'm not complaining in the least that multiplayer is still up, but the fact anyone new to the game can't play any of the DLC content is just blasphemous BS, and we all know it.

So who owns and runs the Space Marine servers now? Can't Games Workshop simply take on the mantle and allow for DLC content to be downloaded again? Why is THQ going under forcefully effect us all? I can only imagine what misery this has caused to the Dawn of War and Dawn of War 2 communities...

So please tell me brothers and sisters, am I not the only one fuming with rage over this?

It's right here on this page?

Can't speak of whether or not it's available on consoles though.

Easy answer: No. GW lacks the hardware and infrastructure required to run a multiplayer game.

Longer answer: The license Relic/THQ had for the 40k is now owned by Sega, who bought THQ during their "going out of business" sale. There is probably some flippy-floppy issues between Sega and Microsoft over access to content and pricing on XBL, which is the cause of the current lack of availability.

Moral of the story: You should have bought this game on Steam.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Sega only bought Relic, and not the 40k license. In fact in light of the other 40k video games currently in development I would say that GW is interested in licensing on a per game basis to any developer/publisher that presents them with a good idea.

Sega does have an upcoming Warhammer Fantasy game, though. It's highly likely that they'd get the license if they asked, and with Relic's history with DoW, they'd be silly not to.

I agree, but what I meant is that I don't think GW has any interest in selling an exclusive license any more. If Sega presented GW with a 40k game that GW liked they would get a license, but I think at this point the license would only be for that one game.

For what it's worth, on PSN the game is bundled with the DLC, however, nobody really plays on the DLC levels.

Ah. That'd be great, then.

Spoiler:
It's not like I'm hoping for an indie dev to step out of the shadows and make an SoB shooter or anything like that.

Spoiler:
In case anybody is wondering, no, I'm not naive enough to think that that is likely to happen at all.

You mean like Dawn of War 3? Which relic still technically can produce (being owned by SEGA and all)? Considering how well the Dawn of War Series pulled people into the tabletop to the point where GW canonized Blood Ravens as a Chapter?

Also they still sell exclusive licenses, which is what Sega has for Fantasy.

I have it on both steam and 360. I disagree with saying he should buy on steam, you still won't find any dlc matches. I also find classic matches faster on 360 than on PC. If I can find any games at all on PC for that matter..

All I'm trying to say is that there is no exclusive 40k license holder right now. There are 2 companies right now that have separate licenses for it, and Sega might have a 3rd that we don't know about.

Not all of us have high end thousand dollar PCs capable of running a game like Warhammer 40k: Space Marine. Besides, I bought a Xbox 360 for that reason, a dedicated gaming system capable of playing modern games with there Hi-Res graphics.

What I can't understand is why GW didn't just buy out Relic Games themselves, I honestly can't see why Sega wanted Relic for, save to stick it to GW over some long forgotten feud the two have.

I mean seriously, is Sega gonna do a Sonic/Warhammer 40k crossover game? Or are they just gonna divert Relic's significant talent in Warhammer 40k games to make some other money making Sonic rip off game with him ridding a rocket powered platypus while fighting himself for 1000 years in future or something?

Not trying to bash Sonic, hes cool, always has been, always will be, but he's been copy and pasted into so many games made only for moneys sake that hes been just done to death, save the handful of really neat Sonic games that have come out, most save the original sonic are flops.

Seems like in grimdark of 21st century there is only money and the people who only care about it...

Sorry but you hardly need a high-end pc to play Spacemarine. I can run it on a +4 year old laptop on high settings. And the laptop hardly had cost 600 euros. Your argument is invallid.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

My PC is older still, she's a Dell E310, so shes a 2006.

She's been good to me, and I've done my best to be good to her, save a handful of learning experiences over the years, and I'm gonna have to give her and overhaul sooner or later and bring her up to par with other PCs of these days.

Also I don't wanna play as a SPESS MAHREEN with a keyboard and mouse, that's what controllers are for, so your counter argument is invalid, with just one "L"!

I run Space Marine off of a 7 year old computer quite easily.

Or would it be eigth now? I think it was 2005-2006...

You can play a controller on the computer, just plug most in and look for a program to run it.

Also, you can buy a 300-500$ computer and play space marine.

Sega actually makes a decent amount of good games. Don't forget that they also own Creative Assembly, the devs behind the Total War series who was already working on a Warhammer Fantasy title even before Relic was bought.
