I've been having a lot of success with a Necron AV13 / 3 NS list with my buddies. However, it's not* necessarily been the most fun to play. My opponents, as well, have commented that being forced to wade into that much fire while simultaneously pounding sand trying to drop that many AV 13 vehicles isn't motivating.

At the same time, we're all a bunch of pretty competitive guys, so I'm hoping to try something a bit different (without spamming 6+ flyers) that will be fun but still pack enough punch to stay in the games. The Meta is Nid MC/Tarpit spam, Orc Trukk/BW spam, DraigoWing and Zombie/Chaos Spawn/Mauler Fiend spam (and one guy who plays Dark Angel's way wrong, but he's not an issue). Everyone but Orcboy plays at least one Psyker (many of them use two).

I was just toying around at 1500 and came up with the following list.

OL - WS, SW, MSS pimping it in a CCB.

Canoptek Spyders x3, x1 Gloom Prism.
Canoptek Spyders x3, x1 Gloom Prism.
Canoptek Spyders x3, x1 Gloom Prism.

I believe the total is 1500 even. We usually play at 1500 or 1850, but I wanted to flesh out 1500 first.

What do you guys think? Worth trying out, or am I going to get my rusty metal behind handed to me on a platter? If ya'll think it'll work, where should I turn for adding 350 points while retaining the core? (I have plenty of almost anything... limited to only 6 wraiths though, pretty much anything else is game at multiple unit size).

Well, I think they are going to hand you your head on a platter.

Mainly because a switch to 9 MC may not be an improvement from their perspective .

The key thing for the above list is that you have serious fast threats in the scarabs, which would be greatly reduced if they kill the scarabs - that's not that difficult to do, even with the new FAQ. Also, you have no invul saves on the Spyders and particularly Draigo wing will hurt.

I used to swear by the CCB, but in 6th I've found it is ok, but not great - and in this list it is screaming to be shot first - in which case you'll lose First Blood, probably closely followed by Warlord.

So, as you have 6 wraiths, I suggest you swap a set of spyders and scarabs for a wraith unit. I also suggest you swap the OLord for a DLord instead (to go with the wraiths).

Now for your 350 extra, you are pretty much limited to Elite slots, or a royal court. You don't really need more troops imho.

So, another DLord and Praetorians? Fits the fast theme, but value of Praets is widely debated.

You could add deathmarks in a Scythe (ie OLord, MSS, SW, WS, DespairTek, Scythe, Deathmarks for 355 (drop one gloom prism?). Or, Drop the scythe and use the points to add a veil, shroud plus a StormTek. Start the unit on the table, T1 veil, shoot, then shroud a different unit (someone told me that's ok because shroud is not a shooting attack?).
