Hi,
I'm thinking intensively about some diorama, wich would take place at night.
What I'm asking for is :

Tips to Model and paint vegetation taking fire

Tips to paint (and model?) gunfire from heavy bolters, or even a leman russ battle cannon

These taking place at night.

It looks like a real challenge, making them cinvincing is a pain.
Ideas ?

If your guys are supposed to be in the dark, then you need to use a very dark grey pallette in their colouring. The low light will prevent colours from showing very much. You can get muzzle flash bits from a number of places (Armorcast I think?). You can then use object source lighting techniques to show the muzzle flash lighting up certain parts of the model.

There are a number of really rather good low light models on these boards, but you'll need to search theg allery a bit.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

It's sculpted greenstuff; as for what us cretins could do I'm not sure, but for big flames you could always give it a shot.

I can't remember what miniature range it is, but there are some figures that are meant to represent Wall of Fire or Fire Elementals from D&D. They're made of translucent orange plastic. Drill up into the bottom of one of those and mount an orange or red in it, and when it lights up you will have an actual light source coming from the fire.

Now, I know for a fact that Armorcast makes a bunch of cinematic effect kits, including giant muzzle flashes, explosions, shells in flight, and a lot of other stuff. Coolmini has their stuff in stock and so do a lot of other internet retailers.
