Ok Dakka, i need some of your collective wisdom...

Here's my story.
I've been eyeing up those new Chaos Raptors for a couple of weeks now, and finally gave in and ordered a box. So i thought i'd do something interesting with the basing, seeing as they already come part based anyway. I squeeze on a generous amount of Pva glue and set it aside a while, then place a drop of superglue in the center of these blobs(Makes the surface go all wierd, almost Alien plant like.). Then comes the bit i need help with, I mix up some Green stuff, to add some tenticle like growths, to mimic the plant growing over the surface of the base. My problem is that these tenticles have finger prints on them from where i have manipulated them into place...

Will this show on the paint? - i paint with thinned paint so im guessing it will >.<
How can i rectify this? How do you guys deal with this issue?

Many thanks

Muzzah

I usually put liquid GS on after. It hides a multitude of mistakes lol.

Thats a good idea, i do have some minor Liquid GS work to do. I would still like to find out how to do it right the first time...

Damn my big fat man hands.

Keep your fingers WET or lubricated. It should stop the GS sticking to it and getting your finger prints all over it.

Manhands or not, your fingers being 'dry' are the cause of the print issue.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Aha... Thankyou!

I assumed that water would just make it slimy/slippery and hard to manipulate accurately.. i will have to give that a go, seems like i need more practice with GS anyway

My father always said to me 'Don't think, your not qualified'

I prefer using an actual lubricant rather than water, but its preference (Note, wash lubricant off when dry before painting)

But yes you can cover it up with liquid green stuff

It's my codex and I'll cry If I want to.

If you keep the wetness to a reasonable level it should be no problem. But don't overdue it or you'll have problems to get the GS to stick.

One way of doing it is a wet piece of cloth and push you finger onto. Or you can just lick your finger. Salvia is a bit thicker than water and as a result is easier to dose and doesn't flood the piece you work with that quickly.

If I'm using a lubricant I use good old vasaline (petroleum jelly) but i will say it can cause some loss of adhesion but easily cleaned off with nail varnish remover

There's a very simple solution to avoid fingerprints on GS next time : use gloves.

(not the kind of gloves that are used to keep your little fingers hot when it's snowy )

Another option to fix your existing model would be to gently 'sand' the prints with steel wool - works well on rounded surfaces.

Thanks for the tips guys, i managed to save the tenticles, with a little careful filing and liquid GS application. I will be priming them later today, before starting work with the airbrush.

liquid green + a couple heavy layers of primer just on your tentacles could also help.

im assuming your sculpt doesnt have lots of fine detail lol. if it does obviously its best to avoid over priming.

Can we see a pic of the bases? I'm curious how they turned out

In my own experience, just a bit of water on the fingertips is more than enough to keep the smooth finish without getting things greasy.

Things I've gotten other players to admit...
