Which do you use and why?

I take Deffkoptas, generally because I use them to Outflank a biker boss, and because they can get linebreaker. I'd seriously consider buggies if they could move more than 6" and fire the skorcha.

Warbuggies are bad so I'd always opt for Deffkoptas.

I really wish warbuggies were good. I love the idea of warbuggies. I think they will come out with some good rules for them soon as well as some new models. And if you put a gretchin as the one shooting in that thing, they could really get good. 3 fast moving vehicles with TL rokkits at BS 3 for 105 pts. yes please.

Well even if they bump the cost up with that addition to 150 points, that squad would still probably be worth it.

Wait they cant? I thought buggies were Fast vehicles, which lets them fire 1 weapon at max speed at normal bs? or am i delusional from lack of sleep

Personally i havent used buggies, more because i havent scratchbuilt any yet and i only have one box for one (basically a "Oh i got this too here ya go" type thing, i didnt buy it) which isnt enough. However when i look at it, i see glaring holes that dont justify the cost cut.

One being the obvious, lack of scout/outflank and no saves. Yeah AV10 is harder to hit than T5 but not by much and ANY "wounds" that hit an AV10 almost always go through, the kopta has a chance to ignore it and rarely doesnt get to use both wounds. I think the lack of scout/outflank is the bigger one to me though, koptas are almost always a suicide unit and without scout, theres no turn 1 backfield vehicle popping or turn 2 outflanking for the same result.

After saying all that, i do wish buggies were better. I want a horde of orks riding 4-wheelers damn it! lol

EDIT: Looked it up. Fast vehicles can fire 2 weapons while moving at cruising speed at normal BS. Buggies are fast. You can totally 12" scorcha things.
Actually that sounds pretty scary....

Deffkoptas are generally better, since they are toughness 5 and automatically have a 5+ cover save.

Buggies are ok, but skorchas are defiantly best out of the fast attack, but as an ork player, who really needs more anti infantry when you have boyz?

I usually run Deffkoptas with TL Rokkit Launchas. 45 points/model is fairly steep, but my regular opponent *hates* their Outflank move, so of course I take them fairly often. Lately I've been playing around with Bigbomms as well. 3x2 Deffkoptas zooming in from the side, dropping a large template each, seems pretty effective at wiping out large squads of guardsmen/fire warriors/maybe even a handful of space marines. If you line them up properly you might even be able to get the koptas out of line of sight in the same move.

My understanding is that Fast Vehicle just means 'can move further when it goes flat out'. By all means prove me wrong and make these things worth taking

No, I thought that they could fire one weapon at max bs as well because of fast vehicle. I will check my rulebook when I get home and check back in

Well damn, I just found it.

Combat Speed? Fire all guns at max BS.

Cruising Speed? Fire two guns at max BS.

I reckoned this rule seemed terrible by GW's standards, glad to see its not the case. Skorcha buggies are gonna be good fun =D

I like warbuggies but the deffs hit and run with its scouting and buzz saw means a low cost unit can turn two kill a tank or heavier opponent. Don't need much anti infantry when looted wagon full of burnas and a skorcha can do that and still give you greater tactical flexibility.

Buzzsaws on koptas are stupid.....theyre melee is complete garbage and youre putting a powerklaw on it. why would you dump so much on a meh melee unit thats normally a throwaway anyway?

I use buggies all the time. They have never not paid for themselves. Basically 3 rokkit buggies in a squad. Often they get blown up... But you can hug cover, and pop medium armor reliably. also useful for instant killing t4 multi wound models. Played and ork v ork game once. Popped the be from behind and not popped out and most died to a single rokkit biggie squadron

Buzzsaws become pretty good when you take them on Dread Mob deffkoptas, because they're only 10 points as opposed to 25.

If only buggies were denial units like the kopta I'd be set on the things.

G00fy have you had any luck with Skorcha trakks?

I have run single skorcha buggies before dakka jets and will in pow points games. They can ruin sniper/ cover dependent things days... But if the points are there 3 or 6 rokkit buggies and 1-2 dakka jets depending on the mood

DeffKoptas with BS. Either alone or with a BikerBoss. Horrendously annoying to the opponent. They can plink from a great range, scout, outflank, 2W, assault, line breaker, yeah everything was said above.

I really love Buggies, but in my experience Deffkoptas did better.

I played 2 times 3x Buggies with TL rokkits. They dealed just a few damages, but they attracted a lot of fire.

I played 3 times 2x1 Koptas with buzzsaw. They are VERY fast, they get jink, they attract fire (and able to survive) and shred tanks into pieces in hth.

In terms of results, go for Koptas.
In terms of fluff and coolness, but alternatives are valids.

Could be great for the buggies to get the same smoke ++ save as the bikers have.

The one thing i will give vehicles even the AV10 ones is they tend to attract big guns even if it isnt needed.

For some reason my opponents whenever i ran trukks rarely fired at the trukks with infantry. Even when a BW is around and far more deadly/immune to infantry guns, my trukks get all the S7+ shots. Maybe if you coupled it up with a wagon list it would be crazy better than deffkoptas, since anything can hurt a deffkopta potentially.
